CJNG releases a video statement denying any responsibility for the IED/mine attack that killed multiple Mexican soldiers in Tepalcatepec, Michoacán. They claim Carteles Unidos (with Colombians on their payroll) was responsible.

Video translation is as follows:

Good morning or good afternoon. I hope you’re all doing well. With this communique I am addressing the federal forces. Especially the Sedena troops so that they realize what’s really happening in Tepalcatpec, Michoacán. We, the CJNG distance ourselves from the mine that exploded on the military personnel. Ask Juan Jose Farías aka El Abuelo what actially happened there.

He knows perfectly well that those mines were placed by the Colombians and that he has them under his command. And that General Enrique Covarrubias himself supports and conceals him. There is so much money that the general takes from El Abuelo that he appears to be his own gunman.

Of course the general isn’t going to carry out his orders. But he does direct the military troops that he has under his command without caring if they lose their lives and leave their families helpless. I want to make it clear to you, I, a member of the CJNG, ask the military to withdraw from the area.

And let us fight. Because this war is between us. So that we can purge and put an end to all those scumbags. In addition, our people can live calmly and in peace. Without any fee collections, thefts, or extortions. I want to make it clear to you that my cartel is strong and powerful. And I’m going to put an end to all those scumbags.

Sincerely, The CJNG

Juan Jose Farías aka El Abuelo
General Enrique Covarrubias
