The mayor of Juan R Escudero, Diana Carolina Costilla Villanueva, was ambushed by gunmen this morning while traveling with her convoy in Central Guerrero. She survived, but two police officers were injured, according to a press release from the Attorney General’s Office of the state of Guerrero.
The statement says that her convoy received gunfire around 1:25 a.m. while traveling on the Tierra Colorada-Ayutla highway 95 after leaving the small town of La Palma on the way to Juan R Escudero. Officials believe the shooters were up in the hills.
Sucesos en Linea reported that the mayor traveled in a red pickup with 3 others, escorted by a police vehicle with six officers. The two injured Preventative Police Officers are identified as Janeth “N” and Alejandro “N”.
