41st over: Mlaba to bowl her eighth

By Henry Hanson

Really excellent stuff here from Mlaba.

She has been the pick of the bowlers today and is bowling stump to stump well enough to ensure the Indian batters haven’t been able to launch as they may’ve liked.

Chance! Deepti tries to go big but doesn’t get enough of it. Long-on dives forward but it’s dying on her and the ball slips through her fingers.

Some good work on the boundary saves South Africa two runs and that’s over.

40th over – Kapp returns

By Henry Hanson

Buoyed by that wicket – which came off the last ball of the Mlaba over – Laura Woolvardt has returned to her premier pacer, Marizanne Kapp.

Deepti Sharma works a single to begin before Armanjot Kaur does the same to get off the mark.

Wide down the leg side.

Too straight again and Deepti works a single square.

You do feel for the pacers on this deck – there is absolutely nothing happening through the air or off the surface.

Half chance! Deepti flicks a full ball back down the ground and in the air. Kapp jumps and gets a finger tip to it on the way to long on. The batters run through for a single.

Mlaba strikes! Harmanpreet is gone!

By Henry Hanson

Wow. Not for the first time tonight, South Africa have pulled a wicket from absolutely nowhere.

Harmanpreet is back and trying to cut Mlaba behind square, but she doesn’t connect and the ball cannons into the top of off.

Game on.

39th over – Mlaba is back

By Henry Hanson

And serving up more in-spinners for Deepti.

It’s a poor ball to begin – full and straight and Deepti is unsurprisingly on the sweep once more. But she picks out short backward square and there isn’t a run.

The batters rotate the strike thrice before Mlaba throws down a wide.

37th over – Tryon goes again

By Henry Hanson

Shot! That was very fun from Deepti. She dances down the track a couple steps before getting down and slog sweeping for four.

The sweep is out again but this time just for a single.

Deepti is loving the ball spinning into her and is feeling confident attacking Tryon.

I don’t think this is a great matchup for South Africa.

A single ends another expensive over.

36th over – De Klerk continues after DRS drama

By Henry Hanson

Coming over the wicket to the lefty, it was always going to be hard for De Klerk to pitch one in line with the stumps and prise an LBW decision.

She continues from the same angle and Deepti works a single.

Three more follow.

Swept! She’s been trying to do that for a while now. Deepti is down and sweeping hard behind square. Four runs.

A breakthrough over has turned to a poor one for South Africa.

Eight from it.

Deepti is not out after LBW review

By Henry Hanson

Big appeal from De Klerk and the finger goes up!

Deepti seeks council from her captain and decides to send it upstairs.

It looks like this one pitched outside leg so definitely worth a look.

And yep…DRS shows it did so by a decent margin.

Deepti survives.

36th over – Tryon to Deepti

By Henry Hanson

I think Deepti might go here.

The left-hander doesn’t mind Tryon spinning balls into her.

She tries to sweep but doesn’t get enough on it and that’s no run.

The batters trade singles.

Another single.

And a dot to end a good over for South Africa. Three from it.

35th over – De Klerk returns

By Henry Hanson

A muffled appeal to begin from the right arm seamer – but that was pitching well outside leg. The batters run a leg bye.

Deepti takes guard and swivels and shovels one down to the diving sweeper on the leg-side fence. Just a single.

Some more good fielding, this time on the circle, saves three as the batters take another single.

The batters seem pretty content just to rotate the strike against De Klerk – who has been good so far today, going at under five an over.

Another single brings up the 200 for India.

34th over – Tryon to go after drinks

By Henry Hanson

Spin returns for South Africa after drinks.

Very slow to begin from the left arm offie Chloe Tryon, and it’s a tip and run single from Harmanpreet to get off strike. Deepti was on her heels a touch and it may have been a bit touch and go if there was a direct hit. There wasn’t.

Deepit likes the look of Tryon and shovels her behind square for a couple.

Delightful! Harmanpreet waits and waits and waits some more and then just angles the bat, guiding one well behind point and to the fence for four.

A couple singles to end an expensive over.

10 off it.

33rd over – Kapp on her way in again

By Dean Bilton

SIX! Right, that breaks the shackles! A big ol’ hoik over cow corner from Deepti Sharma, but a good one and a profitable one. They’re ready to start hitting back.

Comfy singles for the rest of the over after that bomb to open it. Ten off the over as drinks come onto the field. India are getting prepared for launch.

32nd over – Khaka running in again

By Dean Bilton

Just two runs and a wicket from the last two overs. One more breakthrough here and I think South Africa are believing again.

A wide down the legside doesn’t help. Well taken by Jafta up to the stumps.

Slower ball, well read by Deepti. She flicks through midwicket for one.

Another excellent Khaka over, only two from it.

31st over – Kapp to bowl another

By Dean Bilton

There’s a brief window of opportunity here for South Africa. If they can grab a couple more in the next 10 overs and leave the Indian tail to do the swinging in the death overs, perhaps the damage can be limited.

A series of dot balls force Deepti into a slightly risky single, but one she makes comfortably enough.

One run off the over. Things have slowed down dramatically in the last few overs.

30th over cont – Khaka has two to come

By Dean Bilton

Deepti Sharma is the new batter in.

Deepti drives away to deep point for one.

Just one run and a crucial wicket from that over. A beauty from Khaka who is really having an influence now.

OUT! Jemimah Rodrigues is gone for 24!

By Dean Bilton

No doubt at all, Laura Wolvaardt’s fingers were clearly under the ball and the catch was clean. Rodrigues is on her way having smoked a cover drive straight to the fielder, only a few inches too high.

South Africa are fighting.

30th over – Khaka with her tail up

By Dean Bilton

Having removed the dangerous Shafali Verma, Khaka can run in now with some confidence.

OUT? Is Jemimah Rodrigues out? Wolvaardt has claimed the catch at cover but we are going to the replay to see if it carried. This will be fun.

29th over – Marizanne Kapp back into the attack

By Dean Bilton

Harmanpreet Kaur is the new batter in for India.

Three straight dots faced by Kaur, yet to get Kapp away.

RAMPED FOR FOUR! Right, well, she’s off the mark. Just the cheekiest, deftest little flick over the keeper’s head from Kaur.

Five from the over, a pretty good one from Kapp.

OUT! Shafali Verma chips one to mid-off for 87!

By Dean Bilton

(Getty Images)

India’s swashbuckling opener went for one shot too many, mistiming a lofted drive and chipping a catch to Sune Luus at mid-off. That was a brilliant innings though of 87 from 78 balls, and Shafali has gone down unselfishly swinging as India look to turn this good start into a massive score.

28th over – Khaka again

By Dean Bilton

Khaka gets straight and Shafali whips it over midiwcket. Only for one.
