There’s a place for serious discourse, in government as in any human endeavor. In fact, one would argue that government is one of the most important places for serious discourse. But there’s always a place for humor, too, even for obvious trolling. And few understand that better than President Donald John Trump. Now, to further tweak and unsettle the Schumer Shutdown Democrats, the White House website boasts a MySafeSpace page. It’s a great piece of political lampooning.

Check it out.

The page seems to be mostly aimed at House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). The entry page is festooned with comedic sombreros, and under a section titled “The Democrats” features a photo of Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) standing alongside Rep. Jeffries wearing the same comedy sombrero and a fake handlebar mustache. There are links – Pics, Videos, and Voting Record – that go to an enlarged version of the Jeffries/Schumer photo, to a video of President and First Lady Trump handing out Halloween candy, and to an article at The Hill noting that Democrats have blocked the 13th vote to reopen the government.

An “About Me” block, presumably again lampooning Rep. Jeffries, reads:

Hey we’re Democrats in the House and Senate. We love DEI, transgender for everyone, and handing out taxpayer benefits to illegal immigrants. We couldn’t care less if our men and women in uniform get paid or if our neighborhoods are safe – we just love playing politic with people’s livelihoods!

Under “Heroes:”

Anyone who identifies as a radical leftist. Transnational gangs, illegal immigrants.

It continues in that vein.

There is a place for humor in politics, but this is a master class in trolling. Rep. Jeffries, Senator Schumer, and other Democrats will probably be outraged by the use of the official White House website for this bit of tweaking, but I say it’s all to the good. These people have long since abandoned any reason for any of us to take them seriously. So why not point and laugh?

Enough serious debate and even argument will no doubt ensue before, finally, this shutdown ends. I have and still do maintain that this is where Senate Republicans must be stubborn; this is their Little Round Top. This is where they must dig in and refuse to yield. That’s the serious side of this debacle.

President Trump’s MySafeSpace site is the humorous side. That’s important, too. The Democrats are going to have to concede; tomorrow, next week, next month, but they will have to concede. They just don’t have any cards left to play. And pointing out that there’s no need to take them seriously, using humor to illustrate the lunacy of their policy positions, and as the late, great Rush Limbaugh put it, illustrating absurdity by being absurd, works to our advantage, not theirs. Anything that unsettles them, that distracts them, that frustrates them, is worth doing, even as it gives us a few laughs.

Tomorrow, we will be serious again. Today, have a look through the president’s latest master class in trolling, and enjoy a few chuckles at Democrats’ expense.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
