Authorities dealt a major blow to the Ciclones faction. The Gulf Cartel was brought to an end with the arrest of Axel Alfredo ‘N’ and Alan Alexis ‘N’ who were the leaders of this criminal group. Their capture occurred during an operation carried out by the Army, the National Guard and other federal agencies in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. These individuals are the sons of José Alfredo Cardenas Martínez aka El Contador, arrested on February 26 in Mexico City.
He is the former regional leader of the Gulf Cartel and nephew of Osiel Cardenas Guillen. Both Axel and Alan took over the leadership of Los Ciclones after the capture of El Contador. During that time, they were responsible for ordering two major acts of violence in Tamaulipas.
The first was on March 3, 2023, when they ordered the kidnapping of four American nationals, two of them were killed.Just on April 29, they ordered their group to block highways, burn tires in the streets, vandalize businesses, damage vehicles, and assassinate hitmen from antagonistic groups in the municipalities of San Fernando, Matamoros, Ciudad Victoria, and Reynosa.
Los Ciclones is one of the principal groups generating violence in the region. According to authorities, they are accused of trafficking synthetic drugs to the United States, controlling one of the largest networks of trafficking of undocumented immigrants, illegal sale of stolen fuel, acquisition and trafficking of weapons, vehicles and tactical equipment used to supply their criminal cells.
