“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat

Governor of San Luis Potosi Ricardo Gallardo considers brave those who bring a shovel to bury a dead man that a friend just killed.

Governor of San Luis Potosi Ricardo Gallardo is an admitted criminal.

In a speech before the National Convention of Charros, the governor made a ranking of friends.

“There’s a saying about how a friend will place a difficult task on his friends in order to find out who his actual friends are. There are friends who talk to each other and say: “Hey, I just killed a bastard… What do I do? Come on, help me! This is why I say this isn’t literal. I know that the cameras are recording at the moment and tomorrow it’ll be all over the news

“There is always someone who answers: ‘I’m on my way, or I’ve already sent you a lawyer, (the baddest lawyer in all of Mexico), I’m going to send him to help you;

That’s a so-so friend because he’s a fool.

“And then there is the friend who is really your friend, he tells you: you know what, I’m coming over with the shovel to bury him, those are the cool friends,” he said.

This is not the first time Gallardo has made comments as if he were a hitman.

On another occasion he confessed that he likes blood when asked about the crime wave in his state.
