President Andrés Manuel López Obrador urged, on December 20, 2023, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Guanajuato (FGEG) to investigate further regarding the massacre that occurred at a posada in the municipality of Salvatierra, since, according to him, one version was not enough.

The FGEG informed, on December 19, 2023, that ballistic elements of seven firearms – .223 and 7.62 caliber, previously used by a local criminal group for other criminal acts – were found during the multiple homicide that took place around 3:30 a.m. on the 17th.

This took place at the former Hacienda de San José del Carmen, in the community of San José del Carmen, in the municipality of Salvatierra, Guanajuato, with a toll of 11 people dead and 14 wounded, after a group of armed men arrived at the place and shot at the attendees of a posada.

At least 50 young people were at the gathering where group photographs were taken. A total of 11 people, aged between 17 and 30, were killed at the scene, while 12 others were wounded. However, when they were taken to a hospital in the municipality of Salvatierra, another one died.

“The Salvatierra case is being followed up, there is already an account, but some things are still missing. One version of the facts is not enough. Attendees were killed because of a refusal to allow armed people to enter the party, as revenge they killed the people, but a more thorough investigation is needed”, said the president, during the morning press conference, carried out from Acapulco, Guerrero.
