Live: Eels threaten major boilover as Raiders try to keep Dogs and Storm at bay

On the last, Kaeo Weekes hedges over to the wing expecting a kick to Zac Lomax, but the Eels go left and Joash Papalii dinks a lovely chip in behind.

Josh Addo-Carr and Xavier Savage take each other out, and Sean Russell comes through with the try.

And this time Zac Lomax uses the wind to use advantage, curling in the sideline conversion off the right post.

The Eels drop it again on a left-side shift, with Sean Russell’s pass going behind Josh Addo-Carr, and The the Raiders try to go down the short side and Kaeo Weekes drops it cold.

The bench forward explodes into a gap off J’Maine Hopgood and upfield on the right off the second tackle. He pins his ears back but is eventually brought down by Kaeo Weekes.

The Eels try to put on a move to the left, but Joash Papalii fumbles the ball once again as he pokes his nose through the defensive line.

Dean Hawkins tries a torpedo bomb that turns into a top-spinning chaos ball and the Eels regather after a touch by the Raiders to reset the tackle count.

The Eels spin it left and some deft hands from back rower Charlie Guymer and fullback Isaiah Iongi puts Zac Lomax over on the right wing.

Lomax hooks his kick and the Raiders still lead 12-10.

Tallyn Da Silva enters the fray in place of hooker Ryley Smith.

And the set ends with halfback Dean Hawkins slicing a kicking over the sideline on the full.

The Eels flip the script as Zac Lomax taps up and regathers an intercept. He’s off to the races, but big prop Joe Tapine chases him down and corrals the Origin winger. And the Raiders jerseys arrive to form the defensive line straight away.

The set ends with a high kick to Lomax’s wing down the short side. He takes the catch and gets reined in, but manufactures a chip and a repeat set.

Dylan Walker tears through the middle of the field with a brutal fend on Hudson Young, but Junior Paulo is the nearest support runner and he can’t catch up.

Walker hears the call, but his no-look pass goes to ground.

After a penalty under the sticks, the Eels spin it right and halfback Dean Hawkins grubbers early for back rower Charlie Guymer, who has an extra moment to steady himself before grounding because fullback Kaeo Weekes was caught up near the last tackle and didn’t recover in time.

It’s 12-6 after 14 minutes.

Kaeo Weekes is the last line of defence again as Josh Addo-Carr bursts through the teeth of the defence but can’t put any fancy footwork on the Raiders fullback.

The bomb goes out to the left and Josh Addo-Carr makes a flying catch a metre out.

All he has to do is reach out and ground the ball, but Kaeo Weekes somehow tackles him and rolls him over to keep the ball off the ground.

Stunning try-saver from the attacking superstar.

(He absolutely hit him in the air, for what it’s worth, but referee Ashley Klein doesn’t seem to mind.)

The Raiders are looking red hot as they go over for their second in the opening eight minutes, Jamal Fogarty hitting back rower Zac Hosking on a short ball, targeting rookie half Joash Papalii.

Hosking, a former Panther and Bronco, re-signed for three years this week. Remarkable that he might not even be in the first-choice 13 for this team that truly has unmatched depth across the park.

Ethan Strange is dancing through the middle and breaking tackles after a Sebastian Kris half line break.

But he gets blindsided by Jack Williams in front of the posts.

Sean Russell belts it long off the tee and it comfortably clears the dead-ball line on the full. Canberra gets a penalty on halfway and starts its set 35 metres out after the touch-finder.

A couple of set restarts through the middle see the Raiders march upfield and a slick tap-on from Sebastian Kris sends the coach’s son over for his third NRL try.

Ominous signs early as Canberra just wandered up the field through the middle. The set restarts obviously help though.

Josh Papali’i appears to have a rib issue from that first set.

And for the Eels, J’maine Hopgood is battling a busted finger.
