72′ TRY: Leka Halasima has a second for the Warriors

By Michael Doyle

Warriors interchange Leka Halasima has scored his second try of the second half.

Close to the Eels’ goal line, halfback Tanah Boyd ran to the defensive line. He plays short and Halasima charges onto a short ball and bursts through.

That came from a build-up of pressure from the Warriors, aided by set restarts as the Eels struggle to maintain their defensive shape.

By Michael Doyle

Brilliant rugby league from the Parramatta Eels.

Prop Junior Paulo took a hit-up and got an offload to Isaiah Iongi on the halfway.

Iongi runs through the defence, and then he looks for support as he approaches Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad.

There is no support, so Iongi goes by himself. He produces a wicked sidestep and then has too much pace.

61′ TRY: Warriors strike again to reduce margin

By Michael Doyle

Interchange Leka Halasima has leapt high in the air, caught a kick and scored for the Warriors.

The home team had another chance at the Eels’ line after being awarded a penalty.

The kick to the in-goal from Tanah Boyd initially looked too deep.

But Halasima rose above the pack, caught the ball cleanly, and he grounded the footy.

56′ TRY: Warriors score through Roger Tuivasa-Sheck

By Michael Doyle

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has scored in the left corner for the Warriors.

It came from a terrific flick pass from left centre, Adam Pompey.

Tuivasa-Sheck started the attack with a big linebreak from inside the Warriors’ half.

The Warriors were then patient in attack, working the Eels from side to side.

A six-again restart gave the Warriors a full set at the Eels’ goalline.

Pompey’s run to the line drew two Eels defenders, and he was able to flick a pass to his unmarked winger on the outside.

54′ Warriors blow a golden chance

By Michael Doyle

The Warriors were able to get some field position after a terrific set of six.

The Eels’ defence was back-peddling and the Warriors were gifted a six-again restart while attacking the Eels’ line.

Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad charged at the line and was brought down inches from the line.

He then rushes the play-the-ball, and essentially throws the ball between his legs. Knock on. The Warriors need to be more clinical in attack, and quickly.

52′ NO TRY: Eels miss out by millimetres

By Michael Doyle

The Eels put up a high kick. Jack Williams caught the ball, then threw an offload, which went to ground.

Hooker Ryley Smith kicks off the ground into the in-goal. Smith chases through, but he grounded the ball on the dead-ball line.

It was a magnificent chase and dive from Smith. He just ran out of room.

45′ PENALTY GOAL: Eels extend lead to 10 points

By Michael Doyle

The start of the second half has not been good for the Warriors.

A forward pass ended their first set of the half, then a stripping penalty gave the Eels an attempt at a penalty goal.

Zac Lomax is 20 metres out and 15 metres in from touch.

It is a successful kick.

HT: Parramatta Eels 12 leading New Zealand Warriors 4

By Michael Doyle

The Parramatta Eels are plotting another win over a side in the NRL’s top eight.

They hold a half-time lead over the New Zealand Warriors.

The Warriors have not been clinical, and both Eels tries have come off poor kick defence.

Josh Addo-Carr provided the highlight of the first half, running 109 metres for the first try of the contest.

If both teams maintain the high intensity and fast speed in the second half, there could be plenty of points scored.

30′ NO TRY: Offside player denies Eels a third try

By Michael Doyle

On the previous play, the Eels were on the front foot from a charging run.

Mitchell Moses then takes the ball, on the final play, and goes for a chip and chase.

The ball goes through the legs of Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, and the ball continues to bounce.

There has not been a knock-on.

A kick from Eels hooker Ryley Smith hits a Warrior and goes into the in-goal, where it was grounded by Eels fullback Isaiah Iongi.

But Iongi was offside when Smith kicked the ball.

26′ Mitchell Moses with a try-saving tackle

By Michael Doyle

Parramatta halfback Mitchell Moses has been putting in extra hours in the gym.

Warriors five-eighth Chanel Harris-Tavita looked certain to score, throwing a dummy and slicing through the Eels defence close to the goal line.

Moses comes across, wraps up Harris-Tavita, and carries him several metres over the side of the in-goal.

Harris-Tavita was able to throw the footy back infield, but it then trickled into touch.

Moses’s teammates have rushed over to celebrate that excellent tackle.

16′ TRY: Eels score a second try

By Michael Doyle

Another long Parramatta linebreak, off a Warriors kick, has led to a try for the Eels.

Jack Williams has scored next to the posts for his second try of the season.

The Warriors put up an attacking kick, got a tap back, then centre Roger Tuivasa-Sheck threw a pass which hit the ground.

The Eels dived on the ball, and a quick pass off the ground to Kelma Tuilagi led to a long run. Tuilagi passed the ball to Zac Lomax, who was tackled 40 metres from the Warriors’ goal line.

The Eels played patiently and took three nice runs up the middle of the field, as the Warriors remained staggered in defence.

A nice pass to Williams, followed by a tackle bust and sidestep, led to the score.

13′ Warriors and Eels struggling for consistency

By Michael Doyle

Since Josh Addo-Carr’s try, the match has struggled to gather any momentum.

The slippery conditions have made ball-handling tricky, and both sides are making mistakes.

There are opportunities to score for both teams if they can build pressure,

4′ TRY: Addo-Carr runs 109 metres to score

By Michael Doyle

In his 200th NRL match, Josh Addo-Carr has run from inside his own in-goal to score the first try of the match.

An attacking kick from the Warriors was landing on the Parramatta goal line.

It is dropped by a Warrior, and an Eels player tries to knock the ball dead. But he fails to do so.

Addo-Carr picks up the ball, one metre in from his dead-ball line, beats a tackle, and he is gone.

There is no one in front of him, and he is the fastest man on the field.
