Dane Gagai loses the ball.
Then Latrell Mitchell loses the ball attempting an offload.
Then Bradman Best knocks the ball on in a tackle.
It’s an error-strewn end to the half.
37′ Forward pass!
By Simon Smale
By Simon Smale
Not great from Phoenix Crossland – he delivers a forward pass, clearly forward too, to a rampaging forward.
Souths will breath a sigh of relief.
36′ Penalty Newcastle

Offside are South Sydney – Newcastle will have another scrum.
35′ Dylan Brown drops a bomb on Matt Dufty!
By Simon Smale
By Simon Smale
It wasn’t the best set for the Knights – so Dylan Brown sends a monster kick into the sky.
Dufty is there waiting, waiting, waiting – staring into the sun – and he drops it.
It will be a Newcastle scrum on the 10.
32′ Brilliant from Souths!

Latrell Mitchell goes high with the kick off and Souths manage to win it back from Hubner. Clever from Mitchell.
Souths move the ball to the left side, accelerating all the way.
Mitchell flicked the pass on like hot potato straight into the hands of Alex Johnston, who is still not looking right, but was right enough to fall over the line.
Those hands from Mitchell though – ooft.
Amazing stuff.
The kick is missed by Mitchell and it’s 28-10.
28′ Souths are on the board!
By Simon Smale
By Simon Smale
Hard, straight running from Sean Keppie, who takes the short pass from Peter Mamouzelos.
Good, front-foot football from the Rabbitohs.
The kick is good from Mitchell and it’s 22-6.
28′ Error Newcastle

Lovely tackle from Lachlan Hubner to dislodge the ball from Phoenix Crossland’s grip.
The Bunnies have the ball on the right side, deep in Newcastle territory.
25′ Newcastle have another!
By Simon Smale

It’s the left side again!
Newcastle are electric when they get the ball moving down that left side – the motion is so exciting to see in action.
Bradman Best delivered another really good pass to Greg Marzhew out the back of the hand after a furious run, with Marzhew powering over for another simple score, a simple fend enough to dismiss Campbell Graham’s attentions.

Ponga blots his copy book with a missed kick.
But it’s still 22-0.
24′ Cody Walker pinged for a late tackle on Kalyn Ponga
By Simon Smale
By Simon Smale
Frustration mounting for the Rabbitohs.
That was really stupid from Cody Walker – he should know better.
He just left his shoulder there and charged Ponga a solid couple of seconds after the Knights fullback passed the ball.
He blows up, but he should be angry at himself.
21′ The Knights have another!

Newcastle are on fire!
Kalyn Ponga puts a step on Latrell Mitchell that sends the giant centre onto his backside – magical. He passes out the back of his hand before the move down that right side breaks down.
But the Knights are a threat both sides of the field – the Knights shift the ball to the right and Dylan Brown delayed the pass to free Bradman Best.
He races to the line and delivers a pass to Greg Marzhew who scoots over to score.
Magic.
The kick is good again and it’s 18-0.
20′ Another Souths error
By Simon Smale
By Simon Smale
Tevita Tatola drops the ball!
It’s wasn’t a good pass but Souths are struggling here.
That’s another error on the half way line for the Bunnies.
Newcastle are rampant.
19′ Newcastle offside!

By Simon Smale
Oh South Sydney were in real strife there – unable to get themselves out of their own 10 thanks to some thumping tackles.
The crowd were up, “NEW-CAST-LE!” chant echoing around the 20,000-strong crowd.
Then Jermaine McEwen wasn’t square.
17′ Souths error

Oh that’s poor, Bronson Garlick drops the ball and Souths’s territorial advantage is eliminated just like that.
16′ Newcastle offside

Easy penalty for Souths to get some easy metres up field.
Newcastle just a bit too keen off the back of the scrum.
