This is why we can’t have nice things.
The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a fine, proud women’s service organization. Since 1890, the DAR has been open to any woman over age 18 who can prove direct lineal descent from anyone who served in or aided in the American Revolutionary War. Its mission is to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. There’s also a Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), which has a similar mission, open to men who can prove such direct lineal descent.

Now, though, thanks to a vote by the membership of the DAR – and, ironically, only hours from the release of a Supreme Court decision allowing states to bar men from women’s sports – the line between DAR and SAR will be muddled somewhat. The DAR has, you see, voted to allow men to join.
Last week the Daughters of the American Revolution marked America’s 250th anniversary not by honoring the nation’s Founders, but by miring itself in an unnecessary woke battle that threatens the organization’s very future.
Delegates at the DAR’s 135th Continental Congress in Washington, DC, this past weekend defeated a member-driven attempt to limit membership to those “born female” — that is, to actual daughters.
The vote means the group’s leaders will get their way: They can now open membership to anyone who considers themselves to be female.
The members’ resolution failed by a vote of 1,481 to 984 after a bitter procedural fight that many attendees say was engineered to produce exactly that outcome.
Now, I’m going to go out on a limb here and predict an exodus of members away from the DAR, and that’s too bad.

But wait! There’s more! This whole dust-up is because of less than ten “transgender women.”

It’s difficult to imagine a more straightforward membership standard than one rooted in genealogy and biological reality.
Yet all that has now been thrown into question over what members estimate is a grand total of between two and five transgender members — out of 190,000 — who call themselves “Transdaughters.”
Yeah, they’re dudes. Now, we might point out that the DAR, unlike our public schools and universities, where the battle over keeping dudes out of women’s sports was waged, is a private organization, and its membership can vote to include or exclude who they please. But the process described sure looks like the leadership was trying to force an outcome:
The voting process itself only deepened the divide.
The congress’ initial vote was scotched before it was counted, when opponents of the measure claimed to have seen evidence of cheating.
That launched a lengthy and convoluted second vote that required thousands of women to cast ballots one at a time — in a process that stretched for roughly 12 hours.
Delegates, many of them elderly, were effectively confined to the convention hall with only two bathroom breaks and no food service if they wanted their votes to count.
Consumed by this single issue, convention organizers canceled luncheon events, disrupted award ceremonies and pulled the plug on service projects honoring troops and veterans.

That is suspicious indeed.
It looks an awful lot like the leadership of the DAR pushed this and found a way to strong-arm it through. If that’s an accurate assessment, then this is an indication that one of America’s oldest and proudest service groups, one formed to honor the memories of those who served in our revolution, has been hijacked by the woke left. Now, presumably, if the leadership can force this vote, then they may well be susceptible to another vote that will toss the current leaders out on their butts and vote in new leaders that will promise that henceforth, the Daughters of the American Revolution will only be open to, you know, actual daughters?
In the meantime, might I suggest that disaffected DAR members form a new organization – maybe the “Actual Daughters of the American Revolution”?
