Valentine Holmes scores a late doubles, honouring Jai Arrow with his try celebrations, as the Dragons beat the Tigers 24-10 for just their second win of 2026.

Later, the battling Broncos host the Sharks at Lang Park.

Earlier, the Canberra Raiders tasted victory over the Dragons in Simaima Taufa’s milestone 50th match, but the veteran skipper missed her celebratory conversion from right in front.

In the day’s first NRLW game, Tarryn Aiken returned as the Sydney Roosters took down the Titans in their first game of the 2026 season.

Broncos throw it away and the Sharks are in

By Jon Healy

Grant Anderson tries to throw a ridiculous offload while being dominated by three defenders. He throws the ball into the leg of Billy Burns, who is stunned to find it suddenly in his possession.

Everybody freezes, assuming the whistle is coming, but there’s nothing from Gerard Sutton, so Burn sets sail for the tryline. He breaks through the non-tackle of Brendan Piakura and could score himself, but instead he passes to Sione Katoa to score.

Gehamat Shibasaki and Piakura need have a lot to answer for there. Shibasaki put a hand on Burns as he came away with the ball, but instead of tackling he kept appealing to the referee. And Piakura, who was brilliant last week, barely laid a hand on Burns.

3′ Sharks skin them, but the Broncos get away with it

By Jon Healy

Cronulla goes right and Gehamat Shibasaki, back from injury, makes a bad read on the lead runner, allowing Sione Katoa to go unmarked out wide.

Sione Katoa gets the ball but can’t handle juggling five or six times before finally knocking on.

1′ Brisbane erupts as the Broncos kick off

By Jon Healy

The Sharks have first use, and KL Iro takes the second hit-up. You’ve got to give credit to an outside back taking that charge.

Here come the Sharks and Broncos

By Jon Healy

I’ve got to say, I’m backing the Sharks tonight.

They haven’t been flawless of late, but the Broncos are down on troops and in abysmal form.

Kotoni Staggs, rather than Ben Hunt, is stand-in skipper.

FULL-TIME: The Dragons have won again

By Jon Healy

That’s two wins in 2026 for the last-placed Dragons, who take down the Tigers 24-10.

It was an up, down and everywhere else performance by both teams, but the Dragons found their touch in the championship minutes (to be crystal clear, neither of these teams are getting within coo-ee of any championships this year) with Valentine Holmes nabbing a late double.

Holmes scored back-to-back tries and showed off his bow and arrow celebration in honour of former State of Origin teammate Jai Arrow.

We’ve seen it a few times this round already, including in the NRLW from Kerri Johnson.

Mat Feagai seals a rare victory for the Dragons

By Jon Healy

The Tigers can’t catch high kicks and can’t clean up low ones as Daniel Atkinson’s grubber ricochets off the foot of Heamasi Makasini, hits Mat Feagai’s knee and he scurries through to score off the rebound.

The Dragons will make it.

Holmes has a double! Could the Dragons pull this off?

By Jon Healy

The Tigers fail to defuse yet another bomb and the Dragons regather.

Setu Tu takes a dummy-half charge, but still the Tigers fail to regather the defence out left, so the Dragons get the ball there and Valentine Holmes steps inside the cover defence of Sunia Turuva and Jeral Skelton to dive in for his second try in quick succession.

He converts and the Dragons lead by eight points heading into the final five minutes of potentially their second win of the season.

Valentine Holmes is in! And the Dragons hit the front

By Jon Healy

After a bullocking Setu Tu charge on the right wing, the Dragons spin it all the way left.

It looks like Luciano Leilua may have botched the overlap by stepping inside, but he’s able to offload back out wide and the ball ends up with Val Holmes, who goes over.

And he converts to give the Dragons a 12-10 lead with 10 minutes left.

68′ Forward passes, dropped balls, bad plays

By Jon Healy

It’s not been a great game, and it’s gotten worse in this second half as the Dragons and Tigers trade errors.

64′ Suspected torn pectoral for Api Koroisau

By Jon Healy

The hits just keep on coming for the Tigers, with Api Koroisau coming from the field with a reported torn pectoral muscle.

FULL-TIME: Brutal Broncos put 50 on the Cowboys

By Jon Healy

And it could have been even worse as the Broncos score 10 tries, Jesse Southwell missing five conversions, as the reigning NRLW premiers beat the North Queensland Cowboys 50-4.

Winger Kerri Johnson nabbed herself a hat-trick, Rhemy Hinckesma, rugby star Caitlin Urwin and Harlem Walker got tries on debut.

And veteran back rower Lauren Dam got on the board in the second half too.

Safe to say that performance will do little to rob them of their favouritism to go back-to-back.

56′ To’a leaves a try on the table

By Jon Healy

Adam Doueihi unleashes Starford To’a down the left wing and he brushes past Clint Gutherson as easy as you like.

He is eventually tracked down and offloads back inside towards Jock Madden, but he completely misses him and throws it back to Gutherson.

55′ Tigers bailed out by another Dragons error

By Jon Healy

The Tigers are unlucky to cop a penalty as Starford To’a hits Daniel Atkinson juuuuust after he kicks it.

But Toby Couchman knocks the ball on as he tries to play it and the Tigers go the other way.

Adam Doueihi scores by the barest of margins!

By Jon Healy

(Supplied: Fox League)

Nothing is happening on the last tackle for the Tigers and Adam Doueihi takes it on himself to grubber through.

No-one chases, so Doueihi does it himself. It looks like it might skid dead as Damien Cook and Valentine Holmes try to shadow it over the line, but Doueihi arrives from nowhere to just get it down before the white stuff.

45′ Errors galore

By Jon Healy

A forward pass and a fumbled cross-field kick add to the Dragons’ error count for this game.

They’ve been really poor in attack again tonight. Credit to their defence, but I can’t say this Tigers outfit is exactly the 2010 Maroons with ball in hand.

Another fumble in the in-goal by Dylan Egan is mercifully cleaned up and grounded by Clint Gutherson and the Dragons will drop it out.

Sat 4 Jul 2026 at 6:35pm

41′ Dragons start off the second half

By Jon Healy

Valentine Holmes has moved to the left wing to cover for Tyrell Sloan, who injured his hamstring in the first half. Looks like Damien Cook is playing left centre.

What did you think of Jada Taylor’s commentary debut?

By Jon Healy

Twenty-two-year-old Sharks fullback Jada Taylor joined the ABC Sport call for the Dragons-Raiders game earlier today, and loved it.

HALF-TIME: Dragons lead Tigers 6-4 thanks to last-minute penalty

By Jon Healy

Alex Twal is caught in the ruck and refuses to roll out of the way of dummy-half Jacob Liddle, who milks the penalty and gets the whistle from Todd Smith.

Valentine Holmes pots the penalty goal from right in front.

Real dumb stuff from Twal and the Dragons take the lead after what I must say has been a rank half of footy.

38′ The Tigers go over off a forward pass

By Jon Healy

The Tigers go right and Adam Doueihi fires a bullet two-man cut-out pass to Jeral Skelton to dive in, but it’s called forward. Easy call for the touchie and ref there.
