None of this is a surprise. RedState readers know what’s coming if the Democrats win big in the upcoming midterms. It’s rather obvious to those of us with functioning eyes and ears. But Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) has put his party’s intentions on record.

Murphy dropped a pretty revealing comment on the “Nobody Knows Anything” podcast on Friday, admitting that if his Resistance movement comrades ever get the Senate back, they’ll have to gut or rewrite the filibuster rules to force their agenda through.

The concept here is that if voters put them in power, they have a duty to pass their initiatives.

“Of course, we’re going to have to compromise, but we’re not going to get any of this stuff done as long as the filibuster stops us from doing it,” he said. “And if Democrats gain power, we are going to have to reform the filibuster so we can get our core economic ideas done, or nobody is going to vote for us ever again.”

Murphy would add that he would like to see the “reform” route tackled first, but, in his mind, the GOP has “the system rigged” and thus killing the filibuster would be an option.

“They (Republicans) only need 50 votes to get the stuff they care about done, which is nominations to the Supreme Court and tax cuts. So all we would be doing is updating the Senate rules so that Republicans’ priorities can get done with 50 votes and Democrats’ priorities can get done with 50 votes,” he continued. “But right now, it’s the, it’s the Democratic priorities that the filibuster primarily stand in the way of.”

Trump Torches ‘Human Garbage’ Democrats for Their Desperate Midterm Election Interference Plot

To absolutely nobody’s surprise, Murphy is being a mendacious snake.

He mischaracterizes reconciliation as a permanent Republican advantage, when it is a limited budget tool that both parties have used to pass major legislation. The change to simple-majority Supreme Court confirmations began with Democrats in 2013 and was extended by Republicans (thanks, Harry Reid).

The filibuster constrains whichever party holds the majority on non-budget bills, such as the SAVE America Act, and Democrats have benefited from the same 50-vote mechanism they now call unfair.

If Republicans had the benefit of some sort of “rigged” system, getting the SAVE America Act across the finish line wouldn’t be a major problem right now. Speaking of, President Trump again urged his party to beat Democrats to the punch when it comes to eliminating the filibuster, and Murphy’s comments only reinforce that he’s dead right about this.

Stop waiting to follow the Democrat lead (as was done with the judicial confirmations) and strike first.

“We can only lose the midterms if we allow ourselves to lose the midterms if we are foolish, stupid, and unwise,” the President said in an Independence Day address standing before other great Presidents on Mount Rushmore.

“But if we terminate the filibuster as we should do and immediately vote for the SAVE America Act, then we will not lose an election for a hundred years. We do that, we’re not gonna lose an election for a hundred years.”

The SAVE America Act is President Trump’s top legislative priority. It is a key election-integrity measure that requires proof of citizenship and photo ID to vote. Anyone serious about securing our elections against the kind of wildly anomalous results we saw in 2020 — including Joe Biden’s record 81-million-vote total — as well as the many instances of attempted or successful fraud documented on these very pages, should treat it as a top priority as well.

Yet, Republicans seem hell-bent on shooting themselves in the foot on this one. If Democrats secure sweeping victories in both Houses come the midterms, they will develop a counter-effort to the SAVE America Act that will allow non-citizens to vote and incorporate measures that will help facilitate fraud.

And they’ll nuke the filibuster to get it passed rather easily.

Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, giving them the simple majority needed to eliminate the filibuster. Yet Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has repeatedly said there simply aren’t enough votes to pull it off.

Do your job and get the votes. Fair and secure elections for the next 100 years sounds a hell of a lot better than the Democrat alternative, which is to ensure they maintain power for an equal amount of time through cheating.
