HALF-TIME: Roosters lead the Eels by only four points

By Jon Healy

I’m not entirely sure how, but the Roosters are only leading 4-0 despite utterly dominating the Eels in that first 40 minutes.

“We’re not executing,” Mark Nawaqanitawase tells Fox Sports.

That about sums it up.

37′ Roosters and Eels firing shots

By Jon Healy

Both teams are throwing the ball around like crazy, but no-one can strike the final blow.

This time it’s the final pass out to Daniel Tupou on a short-side raid, which is just out in front and the 300-game man can’t handle.

But it’s called back as Billy Smith was hit with a shoulder charge as he passed by Jordan Samrani.

24′ Josh Addo-Carr just misses out

By Jon Healy

Teancum Brown’s sensational offload unleashes Joash Papalii to get the Eels into the dangerzone.

They spin it left and Josh Addo-Carr is adamant he’s got it down, but the touch judge chimes in and is spot-on as he says he stepped on the sideline first.

23′ Magic Mark almost does it again

By Jon Healy

He reels in another high ball and manages to pop a no-look pass over his shoulder, but this time Rob Toia can’t handle.

18′ Ronald Volkman is done for the night

By Jon Healy

The Parramatta pivot is downed by an accidental elbow from Naufahu Whyte and he has to come off. That’s a Cat 1 HIA if ever I’ve seen one, so he’ll be finished for the rest of the evening.

MARK NAWAQANITAWASE WITH ANOTHER MIRACULOUS PASS

By Jon Healy

Rob Toia puts a lovely move on Araz Nanva to get on the outside and send Mark Nawaqanitawase down the right wing.

Four defenders close in on him and appear to dump him into touch, but he somehow pulls off another stunning behind-the-back pass, flinging it 10 or 15 metres straight back to Toia, who had leapt back to his feet after passing to Nawaqanitawase.

Toia scores, but the highlight belongs to Nawaqanitawase.

“That is a freakish pass,” Cooper Cornk says in commentary on Fox.

Bulldogs coach says Stephen Crichton ‘lost feeling down one arm’

By Jon Healy

Canterbury coach Cameron Ciraldo says Stephen Crichton is up and about and feeling OK and confirms that it appears to be a recurrence of nerve issues in his shoulder and neck from previous years.

He says Crichton was speaking to the trainers at the time and wanted to get up and keep playing but the trainer told him to stay down out of an abundance of caution.

“He’s inside, he’s feeling a bit better,” Ciraldo says.

“He was in a fair bit of discomfort. He lost feeling down one arm. It was a little bit scary. He’ll get a scan and hopefully everything’s OK.

“He’s feeling better and he’s up and about.”

Ciraldo says it was tough watching from up in the coach’s box

“It’s an awful feeling. There’s no feedback so you don’t know how he is or what he’s feeling.”

Stand-in skipper Kurt Mann describes how the team was feeling out there at the time.

“It was pretty chaotic. Stephen’s one of our closest mates, so it was a little bit scary. Definitely scary to see one of your mates laying their like that.”

8′ The Roosters are awarded the try, but the bunker take it off them

By Jon Healy

They go right and Rob Toia tries to fling it over the top to Mark Nawaqanitawase. It’s batted down by Josh Addo-Carr and back into Toia, before it dribbles forward into the path of Daly Cherry-Evans to ground the ball.

So the bunker overrules the decision of Adam Gee, but the Roosters will get the scrum feed 10 metres out.

2′ Tupou gets a huge ovation for his first touch

By Jon Healy

The Eels’ first kick goes down his throat and the crowd rises as the 300-gamer winds up for a trademark charge.

He threatens to score later in the set and again the fans are up and at them, but no dice.

Daniel Tupou gets a guard of honour

By Jon Healy

Rather than leading the team out, they head out first and he walks through a guard of honour, including the NRLW side as he walks out with his partner and baby for his 300th game, all for the one team too.

That’s a really well done entry.

We’re heading to the SFS for Daniel Tupou’s 300th NRL game

By Jon Healy

No rest for the wicked as our attention turns to the Sydney Football Stadium, where the Roosters will celebrate the 300th NRL game of winger Daniel Tupou.

They’re taking on the struggling Eels in their heritage kits, featuring names on the back of their jerseys.

Even the front sponsor has got on board and surrendered they’re usual branding style. You love to see it.

FULL-TIME: The Raiders win but thoughts with Stephen Crichton

By Jon Healy

(Getty)

Jaeman Salmon botches fielding the kick-off and that’s the end of another drubbing.

The Raiders complete a dominate victory, but all thoughts are Stephen Crichton, who was stretchered off earlier tonight with concerns over his neck.

It puts a real sour note on this evening, which was already a tough one for the Dogs. We’ll let you know when we know more.

Connor Tracey gets a consolation try

By Jon Healy

The Dogs are flinging the ball every which way and eventually Connor Tracey swoops on a bobbling ball from Jaeman Salmon to score the Bulldogs’ third with just a few seconds left on the clock.

Bailey Hayward was the intended target, but Tom Starling shamelessly pulled him out and Tracey was the beneficiary.

Burton gets the Bulldogs’ second

By Jon Healy

Sean O’Sullivan, on the field for Stephen Crichton, sends Jacob Preston through a hole and the back rower gets an offload away to a flying Matt Burton to score.

Sasagi continues the rout

By Jon Healy

After the Bulldogs are stripped one on one, Hudson Young rolls in a grubber and Simi Sasagi wins the race to get it down just before the dead-ball line.

64′ Stephen Crichton is leaving on a medicab

By Jon Healy

The Bulldogs spin it left and Stephen Crichton is hit by Noah Martin just after he passes.

The contact doesn’t look all that heavy, but Martin must have hit him in a particular spot, because he’s really down.

I’m not sure what’s happened here.

Trainers are supporting his neck and calling for the medicab.

(Supplied: Fox League)

It looks like there’s some concern for his neck. This is a little worrying.

“It’s a horrible look,” Luke Lewis says on ABC Sport.

“You hate to see it. It freaks you out a little bit. All the players out there will be a little bit scared and worried.”

There are concerns around historical nerve damage he has suffered in that neck and shoulder region, according to Michael Carayannis on the sideline for ABC Sport.

All told, play was stopped for eight-and-a-half minutes.

62′ Raiders gleefully accept two more points

By Jon Healy

Connor Tracey manages to catch a spiralling bomb, then tries a ridiculous offload out the back.

Luckily Jethro Rinakama regathers the rolling ball.

But, on the ensuing play, Jacob Kiraz goes on a jinking run, breaking tackles for fun, but eventually running behind Tracey and giving away an obstruction penalty that Ethan Sanders converts for a 36-4 lead.

FULL-TIME: Roosters just barely hang on against the Knights

By Jon Healy

NRLW premiership favourites the Roosters have just snuck past the Knights with a 12-10 win at the SFS.

The Tricolours dominated early and looked set for another big win as Olivia Kernick made it 12-0 after 25 minutes …

But after that, it was all Newcastle as the Roosters’ completion rate dipped below 70 per cent.

The Knights scored two second-half tries but couldn’t convert a late effort by Mercedez Taulelei-Siala and the Roosters survive.
