There Was but One Democrat at the Fauci Hearing Willing to Admit Partisanship May Have Blinded Him

Today’s Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing saw a vast majority of Democrats spending their time either offering praise for Anthony Fauci or carefully steering clear of anything that might make him uncomfortable.

While Fauci repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment and the defensive posturing flew freely from the left side of the dais, one Democrat chose a different path. 

While Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) didn’t launch into an aggressive cross-examination, he also refused to join the chorus of unquestioning and ultimately unserious support.

He engaged in something in short supply in the resistance party today, especially for those clinging to any notion that the vile and contemptuous Dr. Fauci is still a heroic figure — soul-searching.

Fetterman openly admitted that early in the pandemic he had dismissed the lab-leak theory largely because it had been labeled a “right-wing” idea. Just like his colleagues. Just like the media. And he confessed that partisanship may have blinded him to evidence that deserved serious consideration.

He identified it as one of his “regrets” during the pandemic.

“And that is, early on, that there was the theory that the virus could’ve emerged from the lab. And early on that became like a ‘right-wing’ kind of theory, and I thought it seemed to make sense,” Fetterman confessed. 

“That became a very partisan thing, and now it seems now it’s more and more emerging theory that it would have come from the lab,” he continued. “I hope, I think, that the next time our nation’s facing something like this we (do) not become, as I might have been, blinded by the partisan idea that maybe the truth might come from a side that’s different than you are.”

“I think we should really be willing to pursue truth no matter where that may have emerged,” he concluded.

Through the muckery and the buffoonery of Fauci pleading the Fifth well over 100 times and Democrats still trying to defend the disgraced face of ‘tHe ScIEncE,’ Fetterman opted to cut through the noise.

I’ll do a little of my own introspection here: Nobody was harder on this guy in their past reporting than me, especially when loose early-voting procedures in Pennsylvania allowed a man with a debilitating issue to coast through his election over Dr. Oz, even as the public was unsure of his health.

But he has been refreshingly real on several issues. Credit where it is due.

It’s certainly a nice contrast to his colleagues, such as Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), who was practically moved to tears over Fauci receiving a rightful and well-deserved destruction of his reputation.

“For the past 18 months, the Trump administration has been engaged in a campaign to rewrite this history and today’s proceeding, I fear, is part of that effort,” Blumenthal lamented. “One of the darkest days in our Senate’s history.”

Blumenthal proceeded to lavish praise on Fauci, relishing his “five decades in public service” and helping to “conquer Covid-19 … with real-life results saving human lives.”

Give it a rest. Nay, today was not one of the darkest days, Senator. We’ve emerged from those dark days wrought upon us by the man you so easily defend. 

The damage that Dr. Fauci did to our nation is immeasurable. In lives lost. In jobs lost. In education lost. In families lost either through his real-world restrictions that prevented contact, or through the stigma that was associated with those who dared go against him.

Democrats don’t have the courage to do so, but they should follow Fetterman’s lead and look within. Admit they were wrong. Apologize. And vote to hold Fauci in contempt next week. The only suitable place for a man like this is behind bars.
