A new Verasight survey finds 56% say the Iran war was wrong — five points above the current voter verdict on Iraq.

America’s latest Middle East war now polls worse than Iraq.

An InteractivePolls post, citing The Argument and Verasight, reported that 56% of registered voters say the United States was wrong to go to war with Iran. Fifty-one percent gave that answer for Iraq.

The comparison records a 2026 verdict on both wars, not a snapshot of public opinion from the 2003 invasion. But even on that retrospective measure, Iran has surpassed the war Americans spent decades learning to regret.

The Argument’s survey report put Iran opposition at 55% and support at 33%. The poll surveyed 1,603 registered voters from Sept. 16 to 21, with a stated 2.7-point margin of error.

Independent polling points the same way. A Reuters/Ipsos survey found only one in three Americans backed the conflict in July, while 69% said Trump had not clearly explained America’s military goals.

The numbers expose the cost of another Washington war: Americans were promised an end to forever wars. They got Iran.
