A three-month-old girl has died while camping in woodland with her family, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to land off Strawberry Lane, near Cheslyn Hay, Staffordshire, at 08:45 BST on Saturday, to a report of a child in cardiac arrest.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene but the child was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later, Staffordshire Police said.

“While the investigation remains at an early stage, this is an isolated incident,” Det Insp Katie Gregory said. “The death is being treated as unexplained at this time.”

People living in the close-knit community, a village of around 7,000 people, have been left shocked by the child’s death.
