“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat
Luna Roman Mendoza, 17 years old, and Itzel Eve Hernandez, 15 years old, were found inside a dark colored KIA vehicle abandoned on the Tecate – Tijuana highway, they showed signs of torture and strangulation, they had been reported missing days before by their relatives when acquaintances said that the girls were “abducted” by armed men.
Both girls had disappeared since Saturday, November 4, 2023, according to preliminary reports.
The discovery took place this Wednesday, November 8 at 11:52 a.m., when agents intercepted a Kia with California license plates 8A0B603 reported as abandoned just meters from one of the main checkpoints operated by National Guard elements between the limits of Tecate and Tijuana.
Search groups and relatives of the victims arrived at the scene to identify the bodies.
Tecate has registered three homicides so far this Wednesday, all three are female.
