Rodrigo Paez Quintero was detained in Jalisco and has an extradition warrant
Rodrigo Paez Quintero is the nephew of Rafael Caro Quintero and had been in charge of maintaining the power of the Caborca Cartel in Sonora.
A man identified as Rodrigo Páez Quintero, who was arrested for his possible responsibility in crimes against health and criminal association, was taken into custody by elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC).
The facts were reported on the afternoon of Sunday, April 30 by the Attorney General’s Office, which detailed that the man also known by the aliases Lito or Mario is wanted by the Specialized District Judge in the Accusatory Criminal System of the Federal Criminal Justice Center in Mexico City with residence in the Reclusorio Norte.
It should be noted that intelligence work links him to territorial confrontations against Joaquín Guzmán Loera’s sons, that is, the group known as Los Chapitos. The arrest of Caro Quintero’s nephew was also carried out with the participation of members of the Ministerial Police.
“El R” maintained rivalries for territory with Los Chapitos
“Elements of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), of the General Directorate of International Police Affairs and Interpol, carried out said diligence in a home located in the Santa Rita neighborhood in Zapopan, Jalisco,” reads the statement from the authorities.
It was shortly before 1:00 p.m. that the State Security Bureau of the State of Sonora reported the arrest of Rodrigo Omar “N” through its social networks and identified him as a lieutenant of the Caborca Cartel, a criminal organization led by Rafael Caro Quintero, also known as El Narco de Narcos.
“Rodrigo Omar “N”, alias “El “R”, lieutenant of the criminal group of Rafael Caro Quintero, leader of the Caborca Cartel, was arrested for the crime of organized crime by elements of the Navy this Sunday, in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara.”
It is worth noting that El R was identified as a priority target for the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) as he would have continued the legacy of Rafael Caro Quintero in the Caborca Cartel. His main area of operation was northern Sonora.

The head of El R’s hitmen is identified as Jesus Dario Murrieta Navarro, a man with the alias El Cara de Cochi, who is allegedly responsible for the armed group La Barredora 24/7. The Caborca Cartel is currently one of the organizations that generates violence in Sonora.
Similarly, last Thursday, January 27, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the United States, Ane Milgram, shared that she will request the immediate extradition of Ovidio Guzmán López, alias El Ratón, a member of Los Chapitos and son of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán.
Los Chapitos and their fight against the Caborca Cartel
After the capture of Rafael Caro Quintero, Joaquin El Chapo Guzman’s sons tried to gain ground in Sonora, a strategic location for drug trafficking to the United States. An analysis carried out by Insight Crime, an organization focused on drug trafficking, showed that one of the reasons why Guzman Loera’s sons have not been able to get rid of the Caborca Cartel is time, as the latter has been controlling drug trafficking routes for several decades.
Ovidio Guzmán is being held in the Altiplano prison in the State of Mexico.
“Although it has not always been called the Caborca Cartel, the group has owned the route from Guaymas to Nogales since the 1980s. They decide who can pass and who can’t,” stated Juan Carlos Montero, professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey. The security specialist also indicated that the criminal group, in addition to knowing the area well, has a social base and even offers “jobs”, among which the contract killings stand out.
