“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat

Carlos Jiménez, who is also known as C4, is a Mexican journalist specializing in security issues, originally from Mexico City. He is known for his ability to obtain exclusive information, including videos and photographs from his sources. C4 has worked as a reporter for media outlets such as La Crónica, La Razón and Imagen TV.

Today journalist Carlos Jiménez, C4, was threatened with death by a group of criminals, who, recorded a video in which they assured that the television host could not hide.

According to the journalist himself, the video reached his personal phone accompanied by an audio and a call. In the clip, five hitmen, dressed in dark clothes, surround a cardboard box, which they said would be used to put the remains of the television presenter.

Video translation is as follows:

Your world will go to shit Carlos Jimenez. C4, pay attention you fucking dumb ass. So, you like to scratch the lions nut’s huh? Well, this time you’ve scratched the wrong lions nut’s. You sat on the wrong dick. We know where exactly you live, work, train, eat, where your family lives, and in what vehicles and motorcycles you move about in. There’s no place where you can hide from us. We’re going to hunt you down like a fucking animal. We also have the cardboard box where we plan to mail you out in. Your fucking world will go to shit you dumb ass.

During the broadcast of his C4 program on Alert, Carlos Jiménez responded to the death threats against him. Initially, the journalist acknowledged that the threats against him have become a common situation in his life; but he considered that this was something more “delicate”.

“Threats are something that have become relatively common in my day to day. It’s part of my job and that’s how I consider it. However, in this case, I think it’s something more delicate. Apparently it is a criminal group that seems to be well structured; they show machetes, pistols, high-powered weapons.”

The journalist stressed that the group did not identify itself in the threats they made to him. He described his actions as something “cowardly”, because they hid their faces.

Carlos Jiménez took the opportunity to describe Mexico as the most dangerous country to practice journalism, since during the current government president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, 68 reporters have been murdered.

Finally, he stressed that the threat of which he was a victim is not only against him as a person, but also against freedom of expression and all those people who practice journalism.

“Ours is the most dangerous and deadliest country when it comes to practicing the profession of journalism. Faced with this situation, my response to this threat is open and direct: an attack on freedom of expression, whoever it comes from, is unacceptable, not only for me, but for any of us who practice this profession,” he concluded.
