A second judge sentenced César Tapia Quintero, considered to be one of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada’s main logistical operators for the shipment of drugs from Mexico to the United States, to criminal proceedings for the crime of organized crime.
The indictment was handed down by the control judge assigned to the Federal Criminal Justice Center of Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico.
This judicial process is in addition to the criminal case that César Tapia is facing for crimes against health and violation of the Firearms and Explosives Law, derived from his arrest in flagrante delicto on August 7 in the Revolución neighborhood in Culiacán.
In a public hearing and at the request of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR), a District Judge Specialized in the Accusatory Criminal System with residence in the federal prison “Altiplano” ordered justified preventive imprisonment against “Lupe” Tapia’s brother and the closing of the complementary investigation in six months, term that will be completed on February 15, 2024.
According to criminal case 244/2023, along with César Tapia Quintero, criminal proceedings were also opened against his two co-defendants Óscar René Medina Casas and Carmen Julissa Tapia Melchor, both charged with the crime of organized crime.
On August 15, it was announced that Lupe Tapia’s brother was transferred to the federal prison known as “Altiplano”, considered a maximum security prison due to his relevance within the Sinaloa or Pacific Cartel.
