
“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat
A massacre took place this Monday afternoon in Coyuca de Benítez when 11 police officers, the Secretary and the Director of Public Security of the Municipality, Alfredo Alonso López and Honorio Salinas Garay, were riddled with bullets.
The incident was reported around 12:00 noon in the community of El Papayo, near the border with the municipality of Atoyac de Álvarez, in the Costa Grande region of Guerrero.
They were reportedly ambushed by a criminal group while traveling in their patrol cars.
As of press time, the president of Coyuca de Benítez had not released an official statement on what had happened.
