That’s it from the blog tonight!
Another draft is in the books, which means we can all take a deep breath, and then immediately start evaluating next year’s crop (go check out Dyson Sharp…).
We’ll have a bit more wrap up around on ABC Sport tonight and tomorrow, so be sure to check that out. But from me and Chris De Silva, thanks for following all of our draft content this year and we can’t wait to do it all again.

And what about last night’s picks?
Every draft pick made on night two

The 2024 AFL draft has been completed
And that, my friends, is that! A total of 71 picks have been made as the curtain comes down on this year’s national draft.
There will be a lifeline available for a few boys who missed out tomorrow when the rookie draft is held, but that is that for tonight.
Lots of wash up to come!

Pick 71: GWS selects Logan Smith

A strong-bodied ruck whose follow-up work at the clearances is his strong suit.
The Giants snap up their own academy ruckman with what will surely be their last pick of the night. Nicely done.

Pick 70: Essendon selects Zak Johnson

A strong and versatile footballer who can play through any line on the ground. Johnson is tall and combative and his kicking can be a weapon.
A good kick who can play anywhere on the ground, and who loves rocking the long sleeves. What’s not to love?

Pick 69: Geelong selects Keighton Matofai-Forbes
A powerful and athletic medium forward who had to make his mark in brief appearances in 2024.
This guy got a late call up to the Vic Metro team for a big game against Country, looked dangerous and then did his hammy immediately. But the Cats have already seen enough they like, and have taken a crack late in the draft.

Pick 68: Melbourne selects Aiden Johnson
A big, bustling mature-age key forward and ruck from the VFL.
As the passes start coming in thick and fast, the Demons have gone to the VFL for an experienced big man with what will be one of the last selections in this draft.

Pick 67: North Melbourne selects River Stevens
Son on North legend Anthony, is a hard-nut small forward who moves and reads the play well.
A sentimental moment for North Melbourne and the Stevens family, with River following in his father’s footsteps at the Shinboners. There’s now a Stevens, a Harvey and an Archer back at North, nature is healing.

Pick 66: Geelong selects Lennox Hoffman
Intercept defender and third tall option. Quick and natural rebounder.
The Cats have bid on the Saints’ NGA player and the Saints have let them have him. In truth, St Kilda doesn’t need to draft another defender this year and Geelong is the beneficiary.

Pick 65: West Coast selects Hamish Davis

A hybrid midfielder-forward who, without outstanding athletic attributes, is a natural footballer. A goalkicker with clean hands and a big engine.
The Eagles have been scooping up sliders all night, and they kept this one close to home. The WA boy excelled for the under 18s side, the Claremont colts and the WAFL side (including in a big final) and is deserving of a crack on an AFL list. His kicking can be sketchy, but he’s tough, runs hard and is a natural ball-winner as a half-forward or mid.
9h agoThu 21 Nov 2024 at 10:25am
Pick 64: Hawthorn selects Cody Anderson

A quick and bustling midfielder who loves to stick a tackle.
A member of the Hawks NGA, no surprise to see Hawthorn take Anderson with a late pick. He’s going to be a fan favourite.

Carlton is the first team to have passed
So the Blues’ draft is over, but there are still some highly-rated players on the board so I expect most clubs to keep picking for a while yet.
9h agoThu 21 Nov 2024 at 10:23am
Pick 63: Fremantle selects Jaren Carr
Son of Matthew Carr, Jaren is a hard-running mature-age forward prospect.
There was a bit of a question a while back as to whether the Dockers would take Carr, or if another side would swing in and have a crack. I’m sure he’ll now be delighted to be a Docker.
9h agoThu 21 Nov 2024 at 10:20am
Pick 62: Western Bulldogs select Luke Kennedy

A clean and highly-skilled midfielder who is prepared to put in the defensive work. Strong endurance runner but not the quickest.
Yet another member of the vaunted Sandringham Dragons midfield. The Dogs traded back in to the draft, coughing up a future fourth to Collingwood, to snap up Kennedy.
9h agoThu 21 Nov 2024 at 10:18am
Pick 61: Essendon selects Rhys Unwin

Spritely small forward who can create in attack and defends with strong forward pressure.
A partner for Isaac Kako in the Bombers’ forward line. Unwin is all about speed, which will be music to the ears of Essendon fans.
9h agoThu 21 Nov 2024 at 10:16am
Pick 60: St Kilda selects Patrick Said
A small midfielder with clean hands, a burst of pace and quick feet.
The Saints traded back in to the draft to pick up Said, a midfielder who rose up draft boards late in the year. He operates well in tight confines for a smaller mid, but it’ll take him some time to find his feet in the engine room at AFL level.
9h agoThu 21 Nov 2024 at 10:13am
Pick 59: Adelaide selects Tyler Welsh

An eye-catching key forward who is never short of effort and is a fantastic kick for goal.
Look at the size of the kid. Scott Welsh’s boy Tyler is a mountain of a young man and is terrific mark and kick of the footy. He’ll take some refining but he’s a natural footballer.
9h agoThu 21 Nov 2024 at 10:11am
Pick 58: Richmond selects Jasper Alger

An attacking weapon who can hurt defences at ground level or in defence. Alger’s speed makes him a low-touch, high-impact player.
You just can’t keep the Tigers out of this draft. They’ve traded back in to scoop up a sliding small forward in Alger. He and Taj Hotton will both have eyes on that Richmond half-forward line for a long time to come.
9h agoThu 21 Nov 2024 at 10:04am
Pick 57: North Melbourne selects Luke Urquhart

A hard-working midfielder with clean hands and a good engine. Kicking needs a lot of work.
Good athlete, finds heaps of the footy, strong, clean hands … but I can’t stress enough how much work his kicking needs. If he can sort that out, look out.
