A Vanity Fair book excerpt alleges Dutch spies watched Jared Kushner access a UAE account that received roughly $750 million. Kushner calls the story fiction.
Dutch intelligence allegedly cracked Jared Kushner’s iPhone, watched his screen, and found him accessing a UAE bank account that had received roughly $750 million in foreign transfers, according to a Vanity Fair excerpt from journalist Matthew Cole’s forthcoming book.
Cole reports that the Netherlands Defense Intelligence and Security Service, known as MIVD, first found screenshots from Kushner’s phone on a Russian GRU server. The Dutch service then allegedly discovered an iPhone vulnerability in early 2018 that gave it screen-level access as Kushner used the device.
The report alleges that Kushner accessed an account at First Abu Dhabi Bank held by the UAE government-funded Watani Al Emarat Foundation. It says Saudi and Emirati contributors moved roughly $750 million into the account through an Azerbaijani bank beginning in 2017.
Cole writes that Kushner was a signatory on the account, not its owner, and alleges that it served as an off-the-books foreign-policy fund. The excerpt also alleges that roughly $1 billion moved into a separate account in Israel for Kushner’s benefit.
Kushner has denied the report in full. “The allegations made by this author are completely insane and never happened,” he stated. He said no bank statements, wire records, account numbers, or transaction dates supported the claims.
CBS News reported it had not independently verified the Vanity Fair excerpt. Kushner’s lawyer called the allegations false and defamatory.
