Officials from Calibre and Egis shake on a deal (Calibre)
French infrastructure company Egis has started the acquisition process for two companies: New Zealand’s Calibre Professional Services and the Middle Eastern arm of design practice U+A.

Egis has agreed with Calibre Group to acquire the 400-employee consultant, which provides end-to-end services in the areas of urban development, water and roads across Australia and New Zealand.

Laurent Germain, Egis Group’s chief executive, said: “This acquisition reinforces our strategic ambition to become a leading global construction engineering and operations player, and demonstrates our commitment to investment and growth in the dynamic Australian and New Zealand markets and supports our sustainable development offering and the fight against climate change.”

Completion of the acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.

Egis has also entered an agreement with U+A to acquire its Middle East arm. Under the deal, Egis will employ 2,500 of U+A’s staff, boosting its profile in the design, build, operate and maintenance sectors.

U+A has offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, London and Montreal, and in 2022 was voted one of the top 10 International Design Firms in the Middle East by Engineering News-Record.

Alaa AbuSiam, Egis’ Middle East’s chief executive, said: “We are excited to announce this strategically compelling partnership,  bringing U+A’s innovative architects and designers as well as their portfolio of award-winning projects to Egis group.

“Combining the capabilities of U+A and Egis in the Middle East will allow us to leverage our collective know-how and provide a broader range of complementary services to our clients.” Egis’ acquisition of U+A is still subject to regulatory approvals, but is expected to be completed in early 2023
