
“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat
Enrique López Acosta aka El Cumbias, was arrested last night for allegedly driving a stolen car. He was presented to the authorities. He was identified as the leader of Gente Nueva, the armed wing of the Sinaloa Cartel, and faced a trial against him, accused of participating in the massacre in Creel, Bocoyna, in 2010.
Last Tuesday, December 19, four cars were stolen from a lot, with a total value of approximately two million pesos. Allegedly, one of those arrested, “El Cumbias”, was linked to those events.
The antecedent established that the robbery took place in a lot located on the side of Periferico de la Juventud and Haciendas del Valle, next to Plaza Hollywood.
El Cumbias” was detained by security forces when they detected a vehicle with a theft report. He was taken during the night to the Fiscalía Zona Centro to be handed over to them.
Enrique López Acosta faced a trial for being accused of participating in the massacre of eight people in March 2010 in Bocoyna.
El Cumbias” was acquitted on August 10, 2023 and was released. Judges Zulema Sandoval Chacón, Érik Salvador Nevárez Estado and Armando Mariano Durazo ruled that the Public Prosecutor’s Office did not have solid evidence to prove that “El Cumbias” was responsible for the massacre.
The acquittal caused the State Attorney General’s Office to evaluate legal resources to appeal the decision.
