The US Attorney’s Office asked Judge Brian Cogan not to consider the death penalty for Ismael Zambada, alias El Mayo, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

“The government respectfully submits this letter to inform the Court and the defense that the US Attorney General has agreed not to seek the death penalty against Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada,” says the letter addressed to the judge and dated today.

According to the court document, prosecutor Joseph Nocella Jr. informed the judge in the case and the authorities that the death penalty will not be sought against Ismael Zambada García, former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
