“Socalj” for Borderland Beat
Jorge Morales, Director of 60 Segundos, said during an interview with journalist Ciro Gomez Leyva, that the family of drug trafficker Rafael Caro Quintero claims to have no relationship with Carlos Caro Quintero, who was recently arrested following a traffic stop for carrying 8 kilos of marijuana, small amounts of cocaine, and a firearm.
According to official reports, Carlos is originally from Badiraguato, Sinaloa, the same as Rafael Caro Quintero, and is “a member of a criminal group that operates in the north of the country,” stated Secretary Omar García Harfuch. Carlos has a criminal record in Jalisco in 2019 and Durango in 2022 for carrying a firearm and for creating a scandal on public roads, or disorderly conduct, respectively. His recent arrest did not come from the result of an ongoing investigation into the man, but due to a search after being stopped for not displaying license plates on his Mercedes Benz SUV.
However, Omar García Harfuch assured that they have not yet been able to confirm the relationship of the detained subject with drug trafficker Rafael Caro Quintero. Relatives and people close to Rafael Caro Quintero are denying that Carlos Caro Quintero is his brother let alone a member of their family tree.
“We have not confirmed it since yesterday when we reported it, we only mentioned the full name of the person, the license with which he identifies himself, who also happens to be from Badiraguato, Sinaloa. In the first interview that he does when he tries to intimidate his colleagues, he mentions the relationship, but the authority does not mention it,” stated Secretary Omar García Harfuch.
Emilio Caro Payán and Hermelinda Quintero are the parents of Rafael, it is believed that they had a total of 12 children. The known brothers of Rafael who are involved in drug trafficking are Genaro, Jorge Luis, Miguel Ángel, and Héctor, who was killed years ago.
His transfer to a prison in Mexico City was an extensive security operation with an armored vehicle guarded by agents of the SSC Task Force special group. |
