Politico: In Putin call, Scholz urges diplomatic solution, withdrawal of Russian troops 

Scholz also condemned Russian airstrikes against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. 

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a one-hour call with Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday and urged a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine including a withdrawal of Russian troops as soon as possible. 

Scholz “stressed Germany’s determination to support Ukraine in ensuring its defense capability against Russia’s aggression,” according to a statement from Scholz’s spokesperson. Scholz also “condemned Russian airstrikes against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine,” the statement said.
