By “El Huaso” for Borderland Beat
One man was killed and another three were injured after they were ambushed by gunmen waiting outside of a bar in Irapuato, Guanajuato on Sunday morning. This same bar was attacked by a large group of gunmen last October.
The attack occurred around 6:00 a.m. on 8 July at the La Ingrata bar in central Irapuato. According to locals, the bar closes the outside doors early morning, but allows patrons to stay inside a drink into the morning, leaving through a back exit when they are done. It was outside this back exit that the gunmen were waiting for their targets.
One of the victims died at the scene while the other three were taken to a hospital.
Attacks against bars with extensive civilian deaths are common in Guanajuato state. This attack makes four so far in 2024. In 2023, seven bars were attacked, reported Periodico Correo. Two weeks ago, five were killed and another five were injured after a group of masked gunmen likely linked to the CJNG threw a molotov cocktail and shot up a bar in Celaya, Guanajuato, as reported by Borderland Beat.
