Two were killed and another four were injured in an apparent gang attack when gunman stormed into a birthday party at an event hall last night in León, Guanajuato. Locals report that a gang called Los Pachucos 18 may be involved.

Shots were reported as fired around 11:20 on Friday night in the Paseos de la Cima neighborhood of León. According to news site El Tiempo, there were at least four male attackers who arrived on motorcycle and a car and began shooting inside the party.

Police and paramedics responded to 911 calls and mobilized to find the shooters, who escaped. When paramedics arrived, the two fatal victims, Sergio Alejandro Alvarado “El Panzas” (19) and Abril Fernanda Ramírez  (25) had already died. The other four wounded were transported to the hospital.

At least one of the injured has prior detentions for possession of narcotics.

According to locals who spoke to AM Noticias, the victims may have been members of Los Pachucos 18, a gang in the San Marcos neighborhood. However, El Tiempo stated that locals said the attackers were in fact members of Los Pachucos 18. This information has not been confirmed by authorities.

According to the most recent government data from May this year, there have been 1,380 homicides in the state of Guanajuato, the most violent state in Mexico by homicide count every year since 2018.
