In a recent video, members of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) seem to claim the assassination of Jeronimo Ruiz, a local business leader and alleged gang officer, as well as threatening other local actors. However, the video is reused from an old CJNG execution video with new audio overlayed, casting doubt on it’s veracity.

The video appeared online on the night of April 19. In the video, several armed and masked men stand behind a banner and claim that they were behind the killing of Jeronimo Ruiz, who was gunned down by two men on the back of a motorcycle on April 17th. The banner is unrelated to the audio, as the footage was pulled from an earlier event.

In addition to claiming the killing of ruiz, the audio also threatened three major San Cristobal figures; the Mayor, Mariano Alberto Díaz Ochoa, the Municipal Police Director Romeo Alfredo Rodríguez López, and Narciso Ruiz, a cousin of Jeronimo, also alleged to be related to a local criminal group.

The original video was from 2021, related to the Guanajuato conflict between the CJNG and CSRL. In that video, CJNG sicarios decapitate a captured rival with a buzzsaw. The body was later found with the message in León, Guanajuato.

It is impossible to confirm whether or not the CJNG truly admitted to the killing, as it is quite easy to overlay audio on an old video.
