Joe Biden isn’t happy that he’s being asked questions about his classified documents scandal. After being caught with multiple troves of illegally possessed classified materials, including in his garage, the president took questions on Thursday.
When a reporter tried to press him on the matter, he snapped at her, saying that it “quite frankly bugs” him that someone would try to hold him accountable for his transgressions. If he were trying to act guilty, what would Biden be doing differently?

Biden was ostensibly in California to “reaffirm his commitment to support the people of California” following heavy rainfall and flooding, and that’s what he preferred to talk about. Color me skeptical that was the real reason for his trip, though. It’s very convenient that he was whisked off to the West Coast just in time to try to change the topic in the midst of the biggest scandal of his presidency. It’s been raining a lot in California for a month, and only now does he decide to go.
When another reporter asked if he had any regrets about how he handled the situation, Biden was defiant, proclaiming that he had none.

Well, that’s just about the worst answer he could provide, is it not? Why not say that he regrets the documents ending up where they were but that it was a mistake he’s working diligently to rectify? Instead, the president continues to lash out at anyone who might question his behavior. Those documents didn’t just magically end up next to his Corvette and in his home office filing cabinet. The buck stopped with him, and I think this scandal would dissipate faster if he’d take a modicum of responsibility.
That’s not who Biden is, though. He’s always been an arrogant, hot-headed man who refuses to admit to his mistakes. The tales of a stalwart, empathetic operator were created out of whole cloth. Biden is the swamp, and the swamp never gets held accountable for anything, at least not in this century. Besides, are the press really going to push the issue? So far, we’ve seen some actual signs of journalism happening, but the moment a Republican is on the other end of the battle. Biden will be treated with kid gloves again.
In other words, it’s safe to go after the president right now because there are no real stakes. He’s not going to resign and the special counsel isn’t going to do anything but rubber-stamp the situation after a brief “investigation.” In that context, I’m not all that impressed by the mainstream media pressing a few buttons in a non-election year. And while you’d think Biden continuing to treat them like garbage would spark some long-term pushback, I’ll believe it when I see it.
