UK’s King Charles and Princess Kate leave hospital after planned treatments

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the palace said. “Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”

It said Charles “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible”.

The palace added that the king “has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer”.

Charles became king in September 2022 when his mother Queen Elizabeth died at the age of 96.

The king’s son Prince Harry is reportedly flying to London as soon as possible to be by his father’s side as he undergoes treatment.

The Duke of Sussex is expected to leave California “soon” to travel to the UK, but it is not known whether his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two, will accompany him, the Daily Mail newspaper reported.

A source close to the Montecito-based Harry said he had spoken to the king about his diagnosis.

The Daily Mail’s royal reporter Rebecca English said on X, formerly Twitter, that Charles personally notified all members of his immediate family, including his two sons and his three siblings, that he had cancer.
