Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy stopped by Fox News on Wednesday morning to share his thoughts about Tuesday night’s presidential debate. Now a Fox News host, Gowdy was not a happy camper.

Gowdy tore into Team Trump, saying that whoever prepped the former president for the debate should be fired.

While acknowledging the obvious — the pathetic bias of ABC News moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis, who showed zero shame as they all but pulled their chairs behind Harris’ podium — Gowdy called the debate a “land of missed opportunities” as he torched Trump’s campaign staff for allowing him to be unprepared to effectively handle it:

In terms of last night, I know the president listed several people that he had fired during his administration. He may want to add to that the people who prepped him for the debate, last night. It was the land of missed opportunities.

And, yes, I get that the ABC moderators fact-checked him and not her. I got a news flash for all Republicans. He’s not the first Republican candidate to run into a media headwind. In fact, every single Republican candidate has run into a media headwind. It’s their question, but it’s your answer.

Gowdy, a former prosecutor who counseled Trump while he was in Congress and Trump was in the White House, makes a good point. Anyone who knows a modicum about the so-called “mainstream” media’s blatant bias against all things Republican and gushing support of Democrats knew before the debate even began that Muir and Davis would fly wingman for Harris and bail her out when she got even close to trouble.

Gowdy offered several examples of where he thinks Trump wasn’t properly prepared by his debate preppers:

It is incredibly powerful to use the name, to personalize the victim. Did you hear President Trump call the name of a single person [who was] raped, robbed, killed, [or] assaulted by a border crosser, last night? I did not. I heard about cats and dogs in Ohio.

But I didn’t hear the name of a single person who killed as a result of Kamala Harris. How about the Afghan kids that were droned? Did you hear them brought up? I mean, any names. It was a land of missed opportunities to me, last night.

Fox News host Bill Hemmer asked if Trump should do another debate: “Would you do another one, Trey?”

Gowdy’s bottom line:

He better. And he better get a brand new debate prep team, because the goal is to get under his skin. … The key is to not take the bait. I mean, when you get a question about the border or abortion and you’re talking about student loans. She voted against banning partial-birth abortion. That is an extreme position. She says she’s in favor of Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade does not allow partial-birth abortion.

So, look — the moderators didn’t fact-check her. There’s no reason he can’t do it. But to do it you have to know the facts and you have to be prepared. And what I saw last night was an initially-prepared candidate, with a good closing argument. But by that time, the jury had already made up its mind. Whoever prepped him for that debate should not be part of the second debate.

Assuming there is a second debate, that is.

Speaking of which, if you’re Team Trump, do you want a second debate? And what about Team Harris? They were terrified, going into Tuesday night. What about now? Do they want a second debate?
