Lewis Hamilton says he is “ready to do what’s necessary to win” as Mercedes unveil its new car for 2023.

- Lewis Hamilton has won seven drivers’ championships in Formula 1
- Hamilton did not secure a victory during the 2022 season
The team known as the “Silver Arrows” has gone for a black livery for the new year, taking the covers off the 2023 challenger during a launch at Silverstone on Wednesday.
Mercedes’ stranglehold on the sport was ended in 2022, when Red Bull secured the drivers’ and constructors’ championships in dominating fashion.
George Russell secured his maiden F1 win in the penultimate race, but teammate Hamilton went without a victory for the first time in his illustrious career.
The seven-time world champion says the new black livery on the car indicates his team “means business” in 2023.
“I’m excited to go racing again. I feel calm, energised, and have my focus sharpened,” he said.
“I’m ready to do what’s necessary to win.”
Despite not winning a race in 2022, Hamilton still had impressive moments as he battled in a car that was often inferior to Red Bull and Ferrari.
He secured Mercedes podium finishes throughout the year, even when they looked unlikely after qualifying.
The F1 legend said the work the Mercedes team has put into the new car has inspired him for the year ahead.
“I have been a part of this team for over a decade and the efforts of everyone never cease to amaze me,” he said.
“I find it inspiring how diligently and passionately each person approaches their work.
“To see the evolution of the car and the changes that have been made is fascinating. We’ve redesigned, optimised, and innovated so many parts of the car and that is impressive.”
