Stuart Broad was the focus of all the press in the UK overnight, and that’s because he took his 600th Test match wicket.
He’s taking 149 of them against Australia, more than any other English player has done.
He told BBC Sport yesterday that it was beyond his wildest dreams.
“Never in my dreams did I think that would be a thing,” Broad said.
“Some players feel like they have achieved what they wanted to after getting a Test cap and I’ve been fortunate enough to create memories.
“Never did I think I would be up there with the greats of the game.
“Most of the players I’ve played with have the mindset of continuous improvement and ultimately for me in training is that I am always looking for something to change and improve on because that brings intensity to my training.
“For my own mental freshness, it’s about having something I am working on.”
Broad said that Anderson was his biggest motivation and key to him getting better — as well as his mum.
“I’ve been so lucky to play with him and be born in the same era as him.
“My mum has been an amazing support for me and her mindset has always been playing for fun and it always felt like a hobby to me and I’ve reconnected massively with that, Baz and Stokes that’s been their philosophy and I’ve loved every moment of it.”
As for this week’s match?
“We want to win the game we’ll be doing everything in our power to do that.”
