After getting a life on 5, Harry Brook looked like he’d make Australia pay. And he did, but perhaps not to the extent he would’ve liked.

When he fell for 85, it was the 14th time a batter in this series has reached 50 without going on to three figures.

There have also been 11 digs end in the 40s and 13 in the 30s. It feels like A LOT of batters have been getting in and then getting out.

It’s a testament to high-quality, persistent bowling but Brook admitted he was thinking about his first Ashes ton from about 40 onwards, so maybe there’s something about the mindset of the batters too.
