33rd over – Nathan Lyon will bowl the first after tea

80 could be too many
By Simon Smale

If India get 80 in-front it might be enough. It’s all very entertaining but when it’s all over in 3 days you know it hasn’t really been a test of anything. Thanks to the pitch it’s not a TEST match. It’s just a hit & giggle.

A small target makes it anyone’s game
By Simon Smale

If we bowl them out for 140, it would set up an exciting chase of about 50 or 60. Then it’s anyone’s game..

How many is too many?
By Simon Smale

India are still 9 runs behind Australia’s total.
But you’d think – unless anything hugely dramatic happens in the next little while – India will soon put their noses in front.
So how many runs will Australia be able to chase?
Earlier today, Australia lost 6-11, just to put everything in context – albeit at the end of a batting innings where they got close to 200 total runs.
But Usman Khawaja spent a lot of time off the field with an injury, which may well be minor, but may still hamper him.
It’s all set up for an intriguing final session of day two.
Who will be celebrating more this evening?
By Simon Smale

Will this match be over this evening?
Anything’s possible.
There’s 30 overs or two hours worth of action to come.
Tea: India 4-79 (Pujara 36, Iyer 0), trail by 9
By Simon Smale

Key Event

Oh there is still a bit in this Test I think.
Pujara must be the key for India.
If Australia can get him out? Who knows.
If he can eke out a lead for India though, with the tail that has been excellent all series, then chasing anything will be incredibly tough for the Australian batters.
Tantalisingly poised.
32nd over – Matthew Kuhnemann comes back into the attack
By Simon Smale

Pujara pushes into the off side and takes a single.
Iyer defends solidly to the first couple, two slips in place and a short cover in place to restrict the scoring options.
He fends to that short cover a couple of times to follow up.
He defends the last.
OUT! LYON GETS JADEJA LBW ON REVIEW!
By Simon Smale

Key Event
The natural variation off the pitch, we’ve seen one skid on, one rip from nowhere, and then that one skidded on again.

That’s hit him plumb in front and Australia delight in the decision when they see all three reds pop up on the screen.
India 4-78, still trail by 10.
Lyon has 3-27 from 10.5 overs.
Shreyas Iyer just about keeps the last ball of the over out.
31st over – Nathan Lyon wont want to give up the ball easily though
By Simon Smale

Here is the GOAT, but he’s told to wait by Pujara, who’s only faced two of the last 30-odd balls thanks to Jadeja’s stealing of the strike.
He’s back now and defending solidly.
Pujara now walks down the pitch and clips off his pads for a single to midwicket.
BIG APPEAL! Australia will confer after Jadeja is hit on the pads. I wouldn’t review this – it was going down leg, no turn off the pitch. Australia won’t review it. Good decision I think.

BEATEN! Goodness me, that’s turned an absolute mole. From outside leg to past the outside of off stump.
BIG APPEAL THIS TIME! EVEN BIGGER THAN THE LAST! Australia has to review this and they do!

No bat anywhere near it.
This looks quite out.
Time for some Travis Head magic?
By Simon Smale

Time to give Travis a twirl?
– Les
Definitely not the worst idea I’ve heard.
I’d be tempted. Just to mix it up a bit and keep the batters guessing.
30th over – Todd Murphy comes again
By Simon Smale

Three close catchers, all on the off side, a slip, second slip and silly point.
Jadeja is forward defending.
Now he leans back and cuts but can’t get the ball past the cover fielder at backward point. A tight offside field this.
So he looks the other side, clipping to midwicket for a single.
Pujara turns the ball away to square leg for a single, soft hands, a delicate shot to play.
EDGED! Safe in front of slip! Smith takes it on the bounce, it fell very safe actually, great hands from Jadeja, very soft.
He defends the last.
29th over – Nathan Lyon carries on
By Simon Smale

BEATEN! Goodness what a ridiculous ball – that’s ripped, bounced up over Carey and away. No runs conceded, but there’s absolutely no hope of anyone being able to play that at any point in their innings.
Jadeja gets forward and smothers any more potential grenades from Lyon by getting to the pitch – it’s the only way he’s have a chance really.
Now he cuts and gets a single to backward point.
Again, Jadeja farms the strike.
India trails by 13
Usman Khawaja off the field with a calf strain
By Simon Smale

Key Event
Usman Khawaja has a minor calf strain and that’s why he’s off the field.
He’s been off the whole time, although has just walked back onto the pitch.
He needs to as well. He cannot bat until he has served the amount of time that he was off for – so the rate at which this game is moving, could mean he might not even be able to open the batting when Australia resumes.
Once five wickets are down though with Australia batting (if we get that far) he would be able to come in not matter how much time had passed.
28th over – Todd Murphy comes in again
By Simon Smale

Jadeja defends the first.
The crowd are doing a Mexican wave I believe, and making some racket doing so.
Jadeja is forward defending again.
A tentative drive from Jadeja is checked and there is no run.
Jadeja inside edges now for no run.
Now a single though, pushing past the slip to third man.
Solid defence from Pujara.
27th over – Nathan Lyon comes back from the other end
By Simon Smale

Didn’t like that other end, Lyon, so instantly comes back from the other.
CLOSE! Jadeja pushes into cover and the ball falls just short of the man standing there for that shot – it’s almost exactly how he got out in the first innings.
Jadeja comes forward and defends solidly.
There’s real turn here fro Lyon, that one pitching outside leg to the left hander and turning back to off stump, where he fends it away.
A nice push through the covers off the back foot for a single to end the over from Jadeja.
26th over – Todd Murphy returns to the action
By Simon Smale

Short spell from the GOAT – one over in fact – as the GOAT in training comes into the attack again.
Jadeja comes forward and defends back down the pitch.
BIG APPEAL from Steve Smith – only Steve Smith though.
BEATEN! What a ball, getting Jadeja reaching forward and beating his outside edge with turn and bounce, up over Carey’s shoulder for two byes.
Outside edge as Jadeja reaches forward, no run taken though.
BEATEN! Past the outside edge, vicious turn from outside off as Jadeja comes forward in defence.
He turns the last to backward square leg to end the over and steal the strike with a single.
25th over – Matthew Kuhnemann will continue
By Simon Smale

FOUR! Too short, Pujara stepping back and slamming it through wide mid on for four.

Catch is the call as the ball is fended past silly point. It was in the air, but Handscomb was moving forward with his weight and the ball went backward of him.
A single now, Pujara stepping back and clipping the ball to point.
Just a single for Jadeja, who clips the ball over wide mid on to long on.
FOUR! Down the pitch and Pujara slaps the ball past Kuhnemann to the long on boundary.
Solid defence from Pujara, who randomly released the shackles in the last handful of balls he’s faced, hitting two fours and a three plus a couple of singles.
India 3-69
24th over – Welcome back the GOAT
By Simon Smale

Three close catchers, Pujara gets back and then turns the ball away on the leg side for no run.
Lyon coming over the wicket this over, turning the ball in to Pujara.
Now Pujara can get forward down the pitch and turns the ball past Handsomb at bat pad for a single to square leg.
Jadeja defends solidly.
One slip and a very square silly point watch on as Jadeja turns the ball off his hip to square leg for a single. It was not off the hip on second viewing, it was on the stumps and well timed by Jadeja.
Three for Pujara, a nice shot to backward point from the Indian number three, so much of their success in this match now rests on his shoulders. How will be respond to the pressure?
23rd over – More from Kuhnemann, two balls left in the over
By Simon Smale

Jadeja is forward defending amidst a crowd of close catchers.
He’s forward again as the ball bounces up and hits him high on the bat, falling safe to end the over.
LBW! KOHLI IS OUT!
By Simon Smale

Key Event
He does not review it, Kohli!

Hmmm, that looked close to going down leg to me live, but we’ll never know I guess.
Matt Kuhnemann gets his man, as Kohli attempted to pull the ball away and missed, getting hit on the back pad in front of leg stump.
He departs for 13 off 26 balls and boy India are in trouble now as Ravindra Jadeja comes to the crease.
India still trails by 34, with just 7 wickets in hand.
