Hello football fans and welcome to the second game of this two-match series between the Matildas and Mexico.
My name is Simon Smale and I am going to be your host for this evening as the Matildas look to bounce back against the Mexican team that beat them 1-0 in Newcastle on Saturday night.
Saturday’s defeat was no doubt disappointing, but perhaps more disappointing was the way the Matildas played, struggling to find the final ball in front of goal and making some really poor errors in midfield and defence.
The 23,167 fans in the Hunter didn’t seem to mind too much, but there has been a fair amount of criticism from some supporters online – a lot of whom are asking the same questions.
For example, why did coach Joe Montermurro only make three changes in the game and not expose other players to top-flight football?
Where did the midfield disappear to?
What was with the lack of shooting when chances presented themselves?
Answers for those critics may come over the next couple of hours at Western Sydney Stadium, so fingers crossed we see a Matildas team come out and make a statement of intent this time around.
