Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury is set to break the V/AFL games record when he faces West Coast at the MCG on what is a stacked Saturday of footy.

In the early game, North Melbourne came from 43 points behind to beat Gold Coast through a Cam Zurhaar goal after the siren.

Meanwhile Geelong and Sydney are meeting in a game between two flag contenders at Kardinia Park.

Then tonight Port Adelaide and Carlton have the chance to claim much-needed wins when they face off at Adelaide Oval.

Another goal off an awful Geelong turnover

By Jon Healy

Tom De Koning floats a kick out of the defensive 50m and is cursing himself the moment it comes off his foot.

The Swans pinch it and Justin McInerney is the beneficiary, giving the Cats defenders a bit of lip after nailing his set shot.

Swans withstand Cats’ hot start to the second

By Jon Healy

Max Holmes is held by Angus Sheldrick off the bounce and the Cats get the ball into the goalsquare where Jack Martin pins Will Edwards, but the Swans manage to get it out of there.

Brady Hough runs in a beauty of a West Coast goal

By Dean Bilton

Sheesh, how about Willem Duursma there. A scorching two-bounce run through the middle of the MCG and then a perfect kick to Jack Williams who was infringed in the contest.

Hough took the advantage and the responsibility and dribbled through the Eagles’ second. West Coast looking dangerous.

QT: Sydney leads Geelong 4.2 (26) to 3.4 (22)

By Jon Healy

It’s been an electric start at Kardinia, but that finish will leave a sour taste in the Cats’ mouth.

They had the ball in their defensive 50m with 36 to go end to end, but stacked it at the first hurdle. I can’t say for certain, but I’d bet Chris Scott said at least one swear after that.

The Pendlebury signs are up in the 10th minute

By Dean Bilton

Crowd with signs

Just about every meber of the crowd holds up the black, white and gold signs they’ve handed out to celebrate Pendles in the 10th minute.

Quite a sight indeed.

Joel Amartey kicks his third on the siren

By Jon Healy

Inexcusable turnover from Jake Kolodjashnij, kicking for one Cat surrounded by three Swans in the centre square.

Tom Papley comes away with it, screams upfield and finds Joel Amartey unmarked yet again to pot home as the first-quarter siren sounds.

The goals keep flowing

By Jon Healy

The Swans hit straight back as Brodie Grundy taps down to Justin McInerney, he finds Tom Papley to poke it forward to a waiting Logan McDonald, and he hits across his body to an unmarked Joel Amartey to dink home his second of the day.

Both teams brought their spikes today, because this is an absolute track meet.

Pat Lipinski threads the needle! Beautiful goal

By Dean Bilton

Slick hands from the stoppage there from the Pies, Pendlebury to Daicos and out to Lipinski who slots one on the run from the boundary.

That’ll get the crowd going. Eagles had taken the sting out of it early.

Ollie Ollie Ollie! Oi Oi Oi!

By Jon Healy

It’s technically only two Ollies, but let me have this one.

The Cats launch from the back pocket and Patrick Dangerfield comes up with just in their attacking half. He turns and sees two options free and streaming forward, but it looks like he’s caught in two minds and misses the mark.

Ollie Dempsey does brilliantly, or maybe gets a little lucky with the bouncing ball, and finds Ollie Henry unmarked to snap home.

Harley Reid gives Scott Pendlebury the don’t argue at the first bounce

By Dean Bilton

Ha. There’s one. Harley Reid wins the first clearance of the game and dumps a huge fend straight ito the chest of Pendlebury, sending him flying to the turf.

He line him up there, Harley. A few plays later Yeo sneaks out the back to kick the game’s opening goal for the Eagles.

End to end stuff

By Jon Healy

The ball is flying up and down the expanses of Kardinia Park at the moment.

Dangerfield creates a little interplay off the bounding ball and has a look on the run on his left foot.

He scuffs it along the deck by accident and it sneaks under everyone, until Jake Lloyd arrives at the last moment.

Unsurprisingly, the ball bounces straight back out with no time to breathe.

Update

By Jon Healy

Shaun Mannagh threads the needle to find Patrick Dangerfield, who’s just come on and gone into centre half-forward.

Dangerfield’s lining up from 50m but spies Ollie Henry about 25 metres out dead in front and the pass arrives just in time ahead of Tom Hanily.

Henry goals and that’s more classy play from Geelong ending in six points.

Scott Pendlebury’s 433rd game is about to begin

By Dean Bilton

Scott Pendlebury even gets a shoutout in the Welcome to Country. There are not many spare seats in this stadium, I’ll tell you that.

Pendlebury alone has played about 100 games more at this ground than the entire West Coast team. Yes, that is only games at the MCG. What an experience for these young Eagles, let’s see how they handle this occasion.

We’re about to get this one started.

Swans strike again

By Jon Healy

Riley Bice swoops on a pretty ordinary, inside-out handpass from Nick Blakey that hits the turf and pokes into the pockey, where Joel Amartey looked in trouble with an apparent knee complaint.

But it’s lulled the Cats’ defence to sleep and Amartey gets a clean run at it.

(Getty)

The knee must be OK though because he’s slotted the goal and gone straight into the ruck.

Unselfish stuff from the Cats

By Jon Healy

Shaun Mannagh launches into the forward 50 and Jack Henry finds a sliver of space top mark between two Swans.

He’s ready to go back and take a shot but when Jeremy Cameron’s unmarked you don’t muck around, so he hands it off and the big left boot fires home the Cats’ first of the day.

Post to post for the Swans

By Jon Healy

After a bad miss by James Rowbottom — snapping across his body after earning a holding the ball call on Lawson Humphries (are we really calling that prior opportunity?) — Justin McInerney gets an easy look as Nick Blakey finds him about 40 metres out and just about dead in front.

But that left behind post must have a magnet in it, because he’s scuffed it too.

Scott Pendlebury has arrived on the MCG

By Dean Bilton

The amount of Collingwood people lining the MCG race right now is incredible. Think of a living legend of that club and there they are.

Also waiting to shake Scott Pendlebury’s hand are four members of the 400 club – Brent Harvey, Michael Tuck, Shaun Burgoyne and Dustin Fletcher.

Pendles is leading the Magpies out onto the MCG to a roar rarely heard for a home and away game.

He dramatically removes his training shirt to reveal his gold number 10, like a pro wrestler entering the ring.

Also looks like all the Collingwood players are wearing gold numbers now, which is interesting. Looks like somebody got the memo that one bloke running around in solid gold isn’t a great look.

Oh, and the Eagles are playing as well. I know, first I’m hearing of it too.

A gorgeous opener from Caiden Cleary

By Jon Healy

The Swans get a dubious free-kick after a ruck contest just outside 50m and it looks like Brodie Grundy might have scuffed his kick inside 50, but Caiden Cleary makes a great lead to lmark juuuuust inside the boundary line.

The angle is incredibly tight but Cleary checkside is perfect and true.

We’re off and running at Kardinia Park

The skies are grey as Brodie Grundy and Mitch Edwards go up.
