Quaynor was booed by sections of the Adelaide Oval crowd from his very first touch tonight. To me, it seemed like those boos were getting louder as the quarter progressed.

Quaynor has become a target of Adelaide fans since he was on the receiving end of a homophobic slur from Crows star Izak Rankine. Rankine was suspended and missed Adelaide’s ill-fated finals campaign.

The booing also occurred in the qualifying final between these teams last year, prompting Adelaide to release a statement denouncing the abuse as players from both teams also criticised it.

Meanwhile the first openly gay AFL footballer, Leigh Ryswyk, also urged fans to show respect during tonight’s match.

Quaynor, for what it’s worth, had a team-high 10 disposals in the quarter. The booers are going to wind up with a mighty sore throat at this rate, which certainly is a damn shame.
