The Roosters have enjoyed the night of a lifetime in Townsville courtesy of an 82-12 massacre of North Queensland.
Trent Robinson’s side led 48-6 at halftime en route to racking up the third-highest score in premiership history and the highest single-game total since 1935.
Halfback Sam Walker scored 36 points on his own from three tries and 11 goals on a historic night for the Bondi club.

Stay tuned for the press conferences
We’ll have all the latest from both pressers so sit tight – the Cowboys one in particular should be a sight to see……

Fulltime: Roosters 82 def Cowboys 12
What can you even say? That’s the most points any team has scored in a game since 1935, the third most ever and the most of the NRL era.
A once in a lifetime match.

78′ Roosters hit 80!
Walker kicks for himself, volleys the loose ball over Drinkwater and Ramsey is there to score and bring up the 80!
I cannot believe this! Walker converts, he’s on 36 points now to equal the NRL era record for most points in a match, and the Roosters have beaten the clock!
It is 82-12!

76′ Walker puts Savala over as record score beckons
The Cowboys make a break but are penalised for a support runner being out of play. Two plays later Walker puts Savala over and the Roosters have a chance to record the third-highest score in premiership history.
If Walker can kick this it will be the highest score since 1935, when the Roosters put 87 points on Canterbury.
I’m not betting against him…..he’s got it!
Roosters lead 76-12!

72′ Roosters bring up the 70
Drinkwater drops an offload from Nanai with the tryline begging, Ramsey picks it up and races downfield, he gets corralled around the 20 but has Walker in support to score his third try of the night.
Once the try is converted by Walker, his personal haul is up to 32, and it’s 70-12.

68′ Marky Mark gets his third
The tries just keep coming. The Roosters look like scoring every set. Ramsey swings it out for Nawaqanitawase, he has a shot at the line and he pushes through four North Queensland defenders to score his third try of the night.
They’ve hit 60. Ramsey from wide out, Walker has got an early mark…..but it doesn’t make a difference. Roosters lead 64-12.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 9:24pm
62′ Roosters run down the highway
From a scrum feed ten metres out Robson ducks out of lock and hits Toia short and he cruises over totally untouched. That’s as easy a try as you’ll ever see.
Walker converts and it’s 58-12 Roosters.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 9:15pm
James Tedesco given an early mark
Tedesco didn’t come out for the second half but it’s purely precautionary – pretty nice deal when you can rest blokes for a whole second half!
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 9:15pm
55′ Cows pull one back
Well, there’s something. Luke drops Purdue under, he cuts through the middle and has Chester in support to score a nice long range try.
Drinkwater converts and it’s 52-12.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 9:02pm
42′ Roosters score their ninth
We’re back right where we left off – Cherry-Evans puts up a bomb, Taulagi misjudges it and knocks it back, Toia picks it up and gives Nawaqanitawase an easy passage to the line.
They’ve hit 50 and there could be plenty more to come. Walker pulls it across the face but it’s still 52-4.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 8:59pm
Second half is underway
The Roosters kick us off and we’re halfway home.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 8:43pm
Halftime: Roosters 48 lead Cowboys 6
They might have another! Walker puts up a bomb, the Cowboys can’t field it, it falls for Butcher who has Toia and he finds Walker to score!
The Bunker doesn’t like it though, and Foketi is penalised for offside. That cost them a slice of history but on the whole a pretty good half!
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 8:40pm
38′ Tedesco gets another to equal all time recordn
Oh man, this is beyond ugly.
Toia brushes through some appalling defence around halfway, he has Tedesco in support and the skipper gets his second.
If Walker can convert it will equal the record for most points ever scored in the first half of a first grade match….and he nails it!
Roosters lead 48-6! Holy God!
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 8:37pm
36′ Roosters score 40 in the first half
A Roosters penalty puts them on the attack, they take it left on the last, strip the Cowboys for numbers easily and Talau is over in the corner for their seventh try of the first half!
They’re going to go at a point a minute for the first half – at least! Walker from touch….of course he kicks it! Roosters lead 42-6.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 8:33pm
32′ Marky Mark breaks the drought
It’s another one for the Roosters – the Cowboys run it right, Laybutt goes for a tip on to Taulagi, Nawaqanitawase tips it up for the intercept and fends off Drinkwater to go 50 metres to score!
That’s his first try after four matches without getting on the scoresheet. Once Walker converts it’s 36-6 to the Roosters.
What a disaster for the Cowboys.

29′ Foketi scores a solo stunner
This is a smash-up. Walker hits Foketi short around halfway, he’s in the clear and he sells Drinkwater a big dummy to score a brilliant try! Very athletic stuff from the young backrower.
Walker converts and it’s 30-6, the Roosters are keeping up with the clock.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 8:25pm
28′ Cowboys denied a try
Drinkwater hoists up a kick, Nawaqanitawase loses it and it falls perfectly for Taulagi to score an easy and sorely needed try!
But Klein doesn’t like it, we go to the Bunker and they rule that Laybutt touched it first.
Roosters ball.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 8:23pm
26′ Walker gets his second
The Roosters are rolling now. A penalty puts them back on the attack and on the last tackle Walker steps off his left foot through some feeble defence to score under the posts.
That’s his second try of the night and once he converts it’s 24-6 Roosters.
Thu 30 Jul 2026 at 8:14pm
20′ Two in two minutes for Tricolours
Cherry-Evans nails a 40/20 and the Roosters are on the attack again.
Tedesco probes across the field, he pokes a kick in and Savala is there first to score their third try of the night.
Geez, wasn’t much on there and in the blink of an eye, once Walker converts, it’s 18-6 Roosters.
