Not the worst chance there from Bahrain, just the execution letting the hosts down.

That was a lovely little ball over the top from Jackson Irvine for Riley McGree.

McGree can’t quite get the ball under his control though and then fouled Sayed Baqer, who did really well coming across to defend.

Nice work from Goodwin down the right, the Socceroos have had some joy down that avenue so far.

The cross is a decent one and it’s Lewis Miller – who is normally working on that right side where the ball came from – who is in the penalty area and heads the ball over.

A lovely, floated ball from the byline that seemed to defy biology such were the angles he needed to contort himself.

But Bahrain are there to clear behind for a corner.

Caceres was there to dangle the corner over the heads of the Australian big men, but Lutfalla was there to gather.

And then, he tries to launch a counter attack but his teammates are not so keen – the crowd whistling and jeering their disquiet.

However, with the two giants in the centre of the Socceroos defence, it will take a special delivery to get past and challenge Mat Ryan, and that wasn’t a special delivery.

Anthony Caceres played a wonderful ball to Goodwin, who slid the pass in behind the Bahrain defence towards Yengi, who took a step and tried to slide the ball under Ebrahim Lutfalla, but the big Bahrain keeper does well to make himself big and deny the Socceroos a second.

Big chance to double the lead there.

The match on the Gold Coast between these two teams was a study in the dark arts that even JK Rowling couldn’t have envisaged.

But this time, with the lead in their pocket, it’s Aziz Behich who is just delaying Bahrain getting the ball after he was pinged from a freekick.

The long throws are out, and that one went right into the six-yard box and Mat Ryan had to flap at it a bit and gives away a corner.

Bahrain, it has to be said, are dominating the possession since going behind.

The loud-speaker welded by the Bahrain support is working overtime to try and create an atmosphere at the moment.

The Bahraini’s have a free kick in a dangerous position and swing it in – the Socceroos head the ball clear and then block a fearsome drive from well outside the box.
