Unconfirmed reports suggest that, on Sunday evening, the military confiscated 1,185 cocaine packages on routes between the towns of Santiago Ixcuintla and San Blas, resulting in a series of highway blockades in Nayarit.
Early indications are that the narcotics were identified in a speedboat off the coast of Puerto Vallarta by an aerial maritime surveillance patrol aircraft belonging to the Secretary of the Navy. In response, the Navy quickly initiated an operation to intercept the vessel near the Islas MarĂas but was unsuccessful.
The speedboat reached the Nayarit shoreline and offloaded its cargo between Novillero and Las Haciendas. Approximately six trucks operated by armed individuals were prepared to receive the shipment at this location.
The trucks then proceeded down a road towards Santiago Ixcuintla. Meanwhile, drug traffickers in the San Blas area set up barricades on nearby roads and torched a bus in the street to hinder authorities from advancing.
Units from the Navy, Mexican Army, and National Guard discovered the trucks after their operators escaped through gaps. Upon examination, they found over a thousand cocaine packages, which were handed over to the Attorney General’s Office. The authorities confiscated a Toyota and a 3-ton truck, which were brought to the FGR in Tepic for further investigation.
