The official NATO Twitter account sent out a bizarre tweet at 4:27 am Eastern Time Monday that read, “Ukraine is hosting one of the great epics of this century. We are Harry Potter and William Wallace, the Na’vi and Han Solo. We’re escaping from Shawshank and blowing up the Death Star. We are fighting with the Harkonnens and challenging Thanos.” The tweet has drawn plenty of criticism and questions, mostly due to the fact that Ukraine is not a NATO member.

Twitter users mocked NATO’s Tweet comparing the Russia-Ukraine war to Harry Potter, Star Wars and Braveheart rolled into one. In response to NATO’s Tweet, @ALX tweeted: ” Hey @ElonMusk I thought parody accounts had to be clearly labeled?” The Twitter CEO replied to ALX’s Tweet with, “While there is relative good & bad, there are no pure angels in war. Beware those who say they are.”

Elon Musk and ALX were not the only users getting mocking NATO’s Tweet.

Republican Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) criticized NATO’s tweet too. “We’re being forced into a third World War by people who write tweets like this.”

Although Ukraine is not a NATO member, since the start of the Russia-Ukraine War last February, the United States and NATO countries have provided Ukraine with over 13 billion United States Dollars of aid, according to the US State Department.

To mark the one-year university of the start of the war, Joe Biden visited the Ukrainian Royal Palace in Kiev, Ukraine, on Monday. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy at the palace, Biden pledged another half billion dollars of United States aid to Ukraine. Biden also said the United States would fund Ukraine for “as long as it takes.”
