One day after the capture of “El Lupe” Tapia, alleged operator of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, federal forces implemented an operation against the faction of the cartel headed by Ivan Archivaldo Guzman in Sinaloa’s capital.During the search, naval personnel found 35 AK-47 rifles (known as “cuerno de chivo”) and more than 1,500 50 caliber cartridges, ready to be transported to different plazas that the “Chapitos” are disputing with other criminal organizations.
In addition, the Navy secured 33 7.62 millimeter magazines, 1,599 50 caliber cartridges, 2,400 7.62 millimeter cartridges, as part of the strategy to weaken the criminal organizations operating in the north of the country that use the exclusive weapons of the Armed Forces to carry out violent criminal activities, such as robbery, assaults, kidnappings, homicides, extortion and drug trafficking.
According to intelligence reports, the “Los Chapitos” faction of the Sinaloa cartel stores high-powered weapons in safe houses in Culiacán and Los Mochis, to distribute them to their hired killers who fight for the Sinaloa cartel’s different positions with other criminal groups.
Federal authorities have identified Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, alias “El Chapito” and Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, “El Nini”, both with arrest warrants pending extradition to the United States, as those responsible for the violent acts against the Armed Forces in the “Culiacanazos” that led to the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán López, alias “El Ratón”, who is currently imprisoned in the maximum security prison of Altiplano.
