This brings the total number of clandestine laboratories, 125 tons of suspected methamphetamines and 285 tons of precursor chemicals seized this year to 92.
For the first time, a place was located where explosive material was stored that could be used against personnel and vehicles involved in the destruction of these laboratories.
Mexico City, August 3rd, 2023.- The Secretary of the Navy, through the Mexican Navy, informs that on July 31st of this year, in the vicinity of the town of “Carricitos”, in Culiacan, Sinaloa, naval personnel located and dismantled a cave and four clandestine laboratories, which were used for the production of synthetic drugs.
As a result of the operations carried out by elements of the Mexican Navy, in coordination with personnel from the Attorney General’s Office, in a first event, a cave was located in the area of laboratories inside which material was found that could be used to manufacture explosive charges, as well as mines and explosive devices with a possible destructive capacity to affect vehicles with high levels of armor, within which 50 (fifty) kilograms of dynamite, among others, were found.
In a second event, four clandestine laboratories were located and dismantled, where approximately 8,620 (eight thousand six hundred and twenty) kilograms of presumed methamphetamine were seized, practically in a finished process; in addition to approximately 6,550 (six thousand five hundred and fifty) kilograms of substances and chemical precursors, for their possible elaboration, being one of the most relevant findings this year; likewise, diverse material for the elaboration of synthetic drugs was seized.
Therefore, the laboratories, presumed methamphetamine, chemical precursors and other material were destroyed on site, with prior authorization of the competent ministerial authority, for the integration of the corresponding investigation folder.
These seizures represent an economic impact of more than 30 million dollars for organized crime.
It should be noted that this year, the Secretariat of the Navy has seized and destroyed a total of 92 clandestine laboratories, 125 tons of suspected methamphetamines and 285 tons of chemical substances and precursors. Likewise, for the first time, a place was located where explosive material was stored that could presumably be used against personnel and vehicles involved in the destruction of these laboratories.
With these actions, the Secretary of the Navy, through the Mexican Navy, contributes to the joint efforts to combat criminal behavior, both in the establishment of clandestine laboratories and in the production of synthetic drugs in our country, thus weakening the production and distribution of drugs by criminal groups.
