The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have been in the spotlight a lot more in recent weeks thanks to several things. Among them are a wave of DSA House primary wins in states like New York and Colorado, the DSA-backed Abdul El-Sayed winning the Michigan Democrat Senate primary, and Wisconsin state Rep. Francesca Hong, a DSA member, being the frontrunner in the state’s Democrat gubernatorial primary race.

Between that and several DSA officials appearing on Fox News for interviews in July, where their radically extreme agenda of abolishing the Senate, Supreme Court, our borders, and the presidency has been laid bare, the question on the minds of some voters has been: do the candidates and elected officials already in office share those views?
For Hong, the questions are getting more persistent considering the Wisconsin primary is Tuesday, August 11. But the more she tries to run away from her DSA record, the more it catches up with her.

For instance, Hong has already tried and failed to distance herself from the DSA’s stated position of wanting to abolish the Senate, with a tweet of hers from 2021 after she took office resurfacing to show she did at one point hold the same position. As RedState reported at the time, GOP Rep. Tom Tiffany (WI-07), the Trump-backed Republican candidate for governor, called her out on it:

Hong’s social media history is filled with similar posts, where she’s also called for, among other things, abolishing the police, another DSA priority. It’s gotten to the point now where Hong has trotted out a new tactic to try and get around them: she’s allegedly evolved, the statements were made when she was a struggling restaurant owner, and she’s supposedly learned from them:

“I had some hot takes, some bad takes on Twitter, but when you’re a business owner running a restaurant during COVID, trying to pay bills as a student, you’re putting feelings out there into the world,” she said. “But I’ve evolved, I’ve learned. I think it’s more dishonest not to learn.”

Except, as CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski pointed out, some of the positions she posted about were shared on X well after she was elected as a state representative:

In an interview with The New York Times, Hong also used a similar excuse for why she once called for canceling Thanksgiving: It was a “peak woke” moment. It didn’t square, however, with other recent remarks she’s made about the American holiday:

On Sunday, Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), who is also a member of the DSA, was asked on ABC’s This Week program about Hong’s positions. She had a helping hand from anchor Jon Karl, but she basically echoed Hong’s remark about the statements being made amid the early days of “woke,” which she characterized as “Woke One”:

KARL: Which are also positions that have been taken by a lot of the progressive candidates who have won.
OCASIO-CORTEZ: Uh-huh.
KARL: How do you get around that? I mean, those are not positions that are supported by most of —
OCASIO-CORTEZ: Right. I mean, I think that a lot of these races, even right now, they’ll have a tendency to be nationalized.

OCASIO-CORTEZ: But these races ultimately are local and all politics are local. My understanding is that — is that Francesca Hong has made clear her present stances to her electorate.
KARL: Yeah, she’s moved away from a lot of that.
OCASIO-CORTEZ: Right, she’s moved away from it. And I have a local city councilman that —
OCASIO-CORTEZ: — has this saying, ‘Woke One was crazy.’
[…]
OCASIO-CORTEZ: And I think that what’s important is that we have to assess what a candidate is saying now.
In other words, that was at a different time, and things have changed since then.
But again, none of that holds up, as Tiffany explained:

Assuming Hong wins the nomination on Tuesday, she and her supporters, like AOC (who hasn’t formally endorsed her), are going to continue to lie through their teeth to present a version of Hong that is at odds with reality.
From the looks of things, though, the Tiffany campaign more than has her number, and they are not going to let Hong off the hook when it comes to informing and reminding voters as to who the real Hong actually is before Election Day.
