
“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat
Nine people, including two policemen, were killed during a series of shootings and chases that caused fear in Cuernavaca, Morelos. The events took place during the early hours of Monday, November 20 when local police officers responded to a call for help on Otilio Montaño street in the Alta Vista neighborhood.
The police officers were shot at by alleged gunmen. This led to the pursuit of the assailants. The criminals were intercepted at the corner of Panorámica and Actores in the Carolina neighborhood where police officers Francisco Calderon Armenta and Juan Carlos Salgado Flores were killed. Two other officers were wounded. The shootings spread to various parts of Cuernavaca.
Alicia Vásquez Luna, head of security in Cuernavaca, said that seven civilians died as a result of these events. One in the Alta Vista neighborhood, another on Compositores Street, and finally five more on Emiliano Zapata Avenue of the Bellavista neighborhood aboard a fleeing vehicle.
